The deal with our hütte included dinner. First night was warm and sunny, so we were able to eat on the balcony. Pancake soup, then schnitzel with fried potatoes, and a pancake dessert. Home cooking and delicious.
Second night it was cooler, so we had to eat inside. A warm, cosy, traditional spot. It was semolina soup followed by spinach dumplings - the vegetarian option. The normal main course was pork with red cabbage and a potato dumpling. More home cooking.
With it being the inclusive deal, we had no choice (unless vegetarian) but that turned out fine. The also have a plat du jour for people who’re just passing and need food along with the beer.
The excellent rating comes from the joy of having good home cooking on the balcony in the warm September sunset, with a gorgeous view (and a couple of beers!)
Favorite Dish:
The schnitzel!
Great food and brilliant service and reasonably priced. The bar attached isn't great so just eat and go drink elsewhere.
Favorite Dish:
I had Wienerschnitzel, delicious. The steak was so good that all 9 of my friends ordered it both nights we went there. They'll throw in lots of veggies or salad or whatever else you fancy.
With the help of excellent gastronomer Franz Riegler, some years ago, the Bergbahn has transformed the mountain restaurant into a top restaurant with excellent food.
They have added a dining room, called "gondola", which offers dining with view to the city of Kitzbuehel. Thrilling views - see picture.
The restaurant is open daily 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
BUT:
what you don't want to miss when you are in Kitzbuehel is to dine in the evening viewing the city lights - "Candlelight Dinner or Sunset Dinner".
The Bergbahn offers a gondola ride plus dinner for 40 Euros. (Take into account that one gondola ride costs 16,20 Euro). (Price updates: August 2009)
In summer, they offer this service on Fridays only, in winter on Fridays and Saturdays.
The gondola starts running for this candlelight dinner from 6 p.m. to 11. p.m.
Favorite Dish:
Whatever you like (I can't decide...).
The package (gondola ride + dinner) contains starter, main course, desert, drinks extra.
But you can also chose from the menue, which offers 10 maincourses, 3 starters and 3 deserts, or starter and deserts from buffet.
My favourite was bread dumplings in creamy mushroom sauce, starter and desert from the buffet. Buffet is excellent, some 20 different things for choice. (later, I could easily roll down from the mountain, instead of taking the gondola....)
If you want to dine a-la-carte, please only buy the gondola ride at the station, and hand this over to the waiters when getting the cheque. They'll draw it of from the account.
I wrote this tip in September 2005, but have exchanged the website in August 2009.
Near the catholic church and just off the main shopping street is the Herzinger Bakery.
I stopped in to look at the tasty treats in the window
I was tempted by a lot of the items for sale and I ended up buying a cinnamon roll which was really tasty.
On the Hahnenkamm mountain, there is the Hahnenkamm Stueberl, a local restaurant on the mountain.
I ate lunch there after wandering around in the snow and the -5 to -8 below Cel. temperatures and a strong wind and occasional blowing snow.
I had a wiener schnitzel with pommes frites and hot cocoa for 12.80 Euros. As I was waiting for my order, I watched as local workers from the lift station and the snowplow driver enter and order.
I was the only person in the restaurant except for the family cat who kept watch from the fireplace next to the clock that ran backwards (the 1 was where the 11 was).
The food was good, the scenery was great and the atmosphere was excellent.
It's a good place to recover from a hard day of hiking around the top before taking the cable cars back down to the town.
This is a pub and a large restaurant with a huge variety of food. It's resonably priced and the staff are helpful.
Good for both a large group or just a couple.
Favorite Dish:
I recommend the deep fried cheese starter, pizza, ham and melon etc etc.
I meet my friends D & K and their two kids J & K out here. They had spent the week at this incredible resort.
Favorite Dish:
I had the venison tenderloin with potato pancakes with a bottle of the house wine. It was fantastic. From the ooh's and aah's around me, I think that everything was great.
