Hahnenkamm - and the hill station of cable car by Trekki | Reviews and photos of Kitzbühel attractions posted by real travelers and locals. The best tips for Kitzbühel sightseeing. Kitzbühel Map |
 | Kitzbühel Things To Do | Tips 1 - 10 of 21 | | On the opposite of Hahnenkamm is Kitzbuehel Horn, 2000 m. Also a great place for a visit. It is the home of famous Alpenblumengarten, an area where they have planted a huge selection of different plants growing in higher altitudes. You can hike uphill or take the cable car. Also for Kitzbuehel Horn, I will give separate receommendations for the possibilities. Leave a Comment

Hahnenkamm is one of Kitzbuehel’s most famous mountains. This is the place where Hanhenkamm Skiing race is done, end of january. A modern cablecar takes you up there, or you can hike up, on several trails. Being on Hahnenkamm, you have a huge selection of things to do, from small hikes to longer ones, from very easy to quite demanding. You can also visit the little museum, which is telling you about Kitzbuehel’s history of skiing place, cable car history and all related to the skiing race. (however, as the likes and dislikes are different, I will give recommendations each for several of the options) Leave a Comment

When Kitzbühel was founded in 1271, a gig romanesque church was built, of which only the tower is still standing. The present church in gothic style was built between 1435 and 1506, with baroque additions in 1785. It has a wonderful high altar, which was built in 1661 ff. Leave a Comment Directions: It's located some north of the town center. You can't miss it.

Kitzbuehel is a busy place on a saturday morning, the shops close around midday, so it was not easy to walk among visitors, dodge cars and look at places to visit or shop. The church of Katherinen is 14th century and has a winged altar piece from 1520. I hurriedly did my shopping took some photos and retreated up the Hanenkamm. Leave a Comment Directions: Town centre between the two main streets. Vorder and Hinter stadt.

While browsing through the Kurhaus park I saw the town band depart for the town centre, so I followed and saw that a reception was starting, as a recognition for someone Kathy(?) who had won a medal at the Olympics.Sorry I cannot tell you any more. Leave a Comment Directions: On the way from Jochberg Tor, up J Herold Stasse to the Bahstation for Hahnenkamm.

I think a quieter time is advisable to visit and explore all the older places to enjoy. Mixing shopping and visiting historic places is not the best of ideas. So my readers I quietly move on to more interesting places, at least for me. Leave a Comment Directions: The two main streets, Vorderstadt and Hinterstadt join again just south west of Katherinen Kirche. The Tor is at the junction.

Enjoy a day out on The Hahnenkam in Kitzbuhel. Ther's an intersting museum about the cable-cars and the downhill ski race up here. It started off wet when we took the cable-car up here so we had fun in the museum with the downhill race simulator. - step into the machine in a slightly crouched position (as for ski-ing) and put your feet on the pedals to get all the sensations without fear of falling. Its even more amusing for the person watching you from behind as all they can see is your backside bobbing up and down. (no you can't see my pics of this !)

Once you had enough of the museum at the top of the cable-car head out for the fresh air, arm youself with a walking map and explore some of the many alpine paths to admire the mountain scenery of the Kitzbhel Horn one way and the Wilder Kaiser in another direction

Walk back down - I much prefer that to walking uphill if ther's a cable-car available! It was a little wet at first but eventually the sun came out and this rainbow appeared over Kitzbuhel lifting the gloom of the day - lovely! We would return later in the week for some more hiking up there in better weather.

The streets are narrow and busy, the shopping completed I made my way uphill to the Hahnenkamm bahn. I did stop for a coffee and kuchen on J. Herold Strasse, a delightful sustenance for body and mind. Leave a Comment
