Landeck Things to Do

Landeck Castle is situated on a steep rock overlooking the town.
The castle was built in 1290 AD by the Counts of Tyrol and until 1797, was the site of the court and administration.
Nowadays the castle is a local museum illustrating the history of the region. Part of the museum is dedicated to the “Yeniche”. These are nomadic people in Europe, living mostly in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Wallonia and parts of France, who often claim they descended from Scottish Travellers. The “Yeniche” at Landeck, came with their barrows full of goods and tried to sell their services of broom-making and pan repairing to the people.

Another part of the museum is dedicated to the 19th century “Swabian children” who came from poor families and were sold in child markets in Germany, mainly in upper Swabia. Farmers purchased them for a season's work.

The castle gallery exhibits all contemporary arts, especially of local artists
The 1st-floor museum showcases everything from Celtic figurines to hand-carved Krampus masks, as well as a mechanised nativity scene during Advent. Concerts are staged in the Gothic castle hall, as well as events such as “Advent in the castle."
Your allowed to climb the tower for views over Landeck and the Lechtaler Alps.

Built in 1250 by the Tirol ruler as a siege of the law , the castle overlooks the city . Here is located the museum of history of the region , where you could see the culture ,art , and way of life of the locals.

I am happy to see that the castle is presently experiencing its second phase of reconstruction that will turn him in spring 2006 into "the open window in the past" as the site states.
