I was pleasently suprised by the cows all wearing the cow bells, they sounded so peaceful as they grazed the day away. Each one had a different size I should imagine it would have to do with their age. Leave a Comment

From the ski areas I have been to, Mayrhofen is probably the most international one. Beside locals and tourists from Germany also lots of folks from all kind of different countries have been there. People from the Netherlands, Great Britain and Russia are probably the largest group beside the German tourists. Leave a Comment

Just in case you want to spent a quite evening in your hotel room and order a pizza via phone - FORGET IT. The whole Ziller Valley has no pizza delivery service. Why? We asked the guy at Al Capone's pizza street vendor. He said, that most people have enough money and don't need new business ideas in the Ziller Valley. Folks are satisfied with what they have. Sounds like a nice place, right? We still missed the delivery :) But the pizza at Al Capone's street vendor tasted great, too. You get a really huge family pizza for 10 Euro. Or try their Doner Kebab for 4 Euro and ask for the spicy version. Wow, that was really hot!! You can find Al Capone on the main street in the center of Mayrhofen. Leave a Comment

Spending a fun evening in a small hut on the mountain, having a traditional meal, lots of alcohol and live music. That is what awaits you at the "hut night" at the Ahorn mountain station. At 7 pm the nighlty gondola ride to the mountain top starts the event. From the gondola station you have to take a walk through the snow on a path lightened with torches. Then you enter the Ahorn Hut. As a welcome drink you get an Obstler schnaps. Later Tiroler Groestl, a kind of potatoes, is served. Then the live band plays traditional songs and the 100 people in the hut start partying. At 11.30 pm the gondola lifts the guests back to the valley after a firework. Price for this event: 23 Euro including gondola ride, live music, food and one schnaps. The rest of the drinks have to be paid seperately. Reservations can be made at the Ahorn or Penken Gondolas or at the Christopherus travel agency (across the church in Mayrhofen). For more impressions of the fun night I had there, check my travelogue. Leave a Comment
