Ziller valley Alpine Panorama
  • Tip Rating:
  • Another trip with Wivienn. Dept 1.00 from Penkanbahn Return by 4.30pm One of the prettiest high level roads in Austria, you drive up on a tarmaced road to 2000m ( if you dont like the lifts this is a very good way to get up on this height ) where you have a fantastic view over the Alps, you can even see the Hinterlux glacier from here. A stop at one of the small pensions for coffee and cake is welcomed on the journey back. Whiist there we were entertained by the local farmers playing a harp, piano accordian, a rubber glove and a home made instrument with bells on........ it was brilliant. Thanks Chaps for a great afternoon.

The Ahornbahn is the newest cable car in Mayrhofen, which can transport 160 people at any one time. There are only 2 gondolas, one up one down, this is the largest cable car in Austria. It takes just over 6 minutes to transport its guests over 3km up to a plateau that offers spectacular views. Once up there you can walk/hike or just take in the scenery at the restuarant. You couls watch the cable car from the balcony, if you look closely you can see the lines running up on the left side of the picture.

    Boat Trip
  • Tip Rating:
  • In 1887 the abbot of the Benedictine monastery at Fiecht had the pioneering idea of running boats on the Achensee lake. Cruising on the lake on one of these boats while enjoying the gastronomic service is a special expeience. From a landscape point of view the Gaisalm is unique being the only Alpine pasture that can only be reached by foot or boat. 4 ships with a capacity of 40 - 600 people make up the shipping co. Two provide onboard food and wheelchair access. A eveing cruise can be enjoyed with music and dancing and the cliff are illuminated. Trip approx 1 hour 30 mins price 12.50 euro for daytime sailing.

    Eagles Nest and the History
  • Tip Rating:
  • Tour by Wiviann depart 08.00 from Win Win. Drive to Berchtesgaden then on up the mountain
Obersalzberg where an organised bus takes you up to The Eagles Nest. On the peak a guided tour in English is not to be missed. The stay on the mountain top is approx 1 1/2 - 2 hours. so there is enough time to look around on your own aswell. Coming back Wiviann tells you the rest of the history about the area and you also have the opportunity to personally stand on this historic ground. Also in the program there is a visit to the official bunkers you can descend and enter them for a small fee. Arrive back in Mayrhofen 6.00pm

    Alpbach
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is one of the most beautiful farmer-villages in the Tyrol. In summer the delightful village shows itself in the midst of lots of flowers and is surrounded by an extensive mountain and hiking area. Relax with a stroll around this pretty village with decorated wooded houses and lovely fountains, well worth a visit.

    Zemm Valley
  • Tip Rating:
  • This amazing side valley passes through the mountain village of Ginzling ( mountain museum ) and from where there are lots of good shorter walks and then continues up to the Schlegis resevoir and dam this makes a great day out for all, with plenty of easy walking around the resevoir, and great hikes aswell. The Pfitcherjoch Haus just over the Italian border takes about 2 - 3 hours.

    Ramsau ridge walk to Brandberg
  • Tip Rating:
  • A picturesque single chairlift journey (20 mins) takes you to the start of this lovely walk, following the contours towards Steinerkogel via the Kotahornalm and then decending through the woods to the pretty mountain village of Brandberg. Depending on fitness / energy levels the return to Mayrhofen is either by bus or a further walk.

    The Tuxer Valley
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is the largest of the side valleys and passes through the villages of Finkenberg and Lanersbacj, where there are plenty of great walks, ending at Hinterlux above which sits the glacier. Here skiing takes place 365 days a year. As a non-skier you can take the three lifts to a height of 3250m -10,666ft. There is a panorama platform built on top of the lift station where the veiws are amazing.
