 | Sankt Anton am Arlberg Transportation | Tips 1 - 8 of 8 | | Popular Transportation | Other Transportation Tips | All Tips (8) Sankt Anton am Arlberg has it's own train-station and the station is in the very centre of town, so you dont need to have your own car to get there. On the way to Vorarlberg and Switzerland the train will go inside a series of tunnels. From St. Anton you may continue to Zuers and Lech by the local bus, see their web-page below. The buses of OEBB are included in the prepaid train-tickets like Interrail, Eurail etc., BUT for the POST-buses you have to pay seperate ! Leave a Comment

Arlberg Strassentunnel is a good alternative for cars to pass by the Arlberg and avoid all of the problems when driving over the snowy pass-road. In summertime it does not make sense in my opinion, it is even quite dangerous, when you considder that you will get dizzy after a while of driving at the same speed, one car in front of you and another car in your back and you have to keep that speed for several km otherwise the truck in your back will get as close as just a few cm to your backside and will start to hoop etc... Next problem is the oncoming trafic, that is not in a seperate tube. Arlberg Strassentunnel is part of the highway, BUT you need to pay an extra-toll anyway : 7,27 Euro for motorbikes 9,45 Euro for cars 4,36 Euro for caravans Speedlimit is mostly 80 km/h Overtaking is absolutely forbidden ! The pass-road over the Arlberg is totally free of charge and it will take you through breathtaking landscapes. Before the tunnel was built, all of the trafic was going over that passroad, but now you will hardly ever meet a truck (except one of the very few , that have to deliver something to one of the villages along the road.) I was going over that pass last time on a sunny day in october 2006 and the trafic was really very low and it was easy to find parkings along the road. The tunnel is a lot faster, and taking the pass-road you are "loosing" about 30 minutes, but you certainly "gain" a lot by relaxing driving, stunning landscapes & great nature ! In winter this road might be closed, even when the weather looks fine down in the valley ! Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

In 2001 St. Anton am Arlberg got a new railway station It is made in a very nice way compared to the relative small community it is places as a part of. Its is to describe it made as a part of mountain wall just opening up to give room for the station in it self where after the rails exit into the mountain tunnels again. For this it has won more architecture awards among others the Brunel Award. If you not going by car or bus you can get to St. Anton by train from Zurich Switzerland. Passport control is conveniently made on the run between stations. The ride takes around 2 hours and 20 minutes and cost around 38 euros. Theme: Train

I bought a single return, to include the Galzigbahn, and Valluga I and II cable cars. The view from the top of the Valluga II (2811m) was well worth the EUR 22 (EUR 4 as a deposit on your liftcard) I paid. Views are outstanding. The ride is in three stages: 1) Galzigbahn (cable car) 2) Valluga I (cable car) 3) Valluga II (6 man gondola) There are restaurants/cafés at the top of the Galzigbahn and the Valluga I. St Anton benefits from lying on the main railway line that runs through from Vienna into Switzerland. It therefore recieves a steady stream of international trains including the 'eurocity'. A few years back they spent millions moving the line to the other side of the valley, just a few hundred feet - but what a difference it has made to the town. The town now feels very spacious, and a massive swimming pool complex has been built on the site of the old station. I guess there must be a record for the quickest time between arriving at the station and plonking yourself on the nearest charlift - i reckon it could be dome in about three minutes. The nearest airport is Innsbruck, about an hour away but Munich, Salzburg, Friedrickshaven and Zurich are all within three hours reach. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

The Wedelweiss scheme is a train/skipass package operated by ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways). There are packages for three days or six days skiing (ask to add additional days when you hand in your voucher to get the cheapest extra days!). From Vienna to St Anton you can travel 1st class and have 6 days skiing for EUR 283 - which is not bad value at all - considering you would spend EUR170 getting to St Anton from Vienna first class without a Vorteilscard. Also included in the price are transfers from your hotel to the station by taxi. All in all, throughly recommended. Leave a Comment
