 scottishvisitor Says:  The Hintersteinersee covers an area of 56 hectacers and is 36 meters deep it is situated 900 meters above sea level. The lake is owned by the Tirolean Water Authority and is fed by underground springs creating crystal clear pure water. Walking around the lake takes around...

The sign outside said the water temperature was 22 the land temperature was around 34 so we were tempted, but no we wanted to see the lake in a more natural setting so we went... 

 scottishvisitor Says:  We went into the tourist office to get tickets for the Hintersteinersee bus only to be told we were too late. We were a bit disappointed but the young lad was very helpful telling us he could get us a taxi for 15 euros. The bus price is 3.90 euros per person for a return... 

 steevie_wanders Says:  Lie down in the sunlight, but be sure to use Sun Protection!Alternatively, if your skin is really pale (like mine) just reflect the rays straight back up.

All of Scheffau society was out there most afternoons sporting the latest swim wear... not!Actually a beautiful green coloured lake, surprisingly quiet, despite being next to a small road. The water was cool, deep, and... 

 steevie_wanders Says:  White water rafting! There's plenty of fast moving mountain rivers in the Tirol area. And many rafting companies!I was lucky to have a free day out with the company I worked for. Secretly I think they were trying to drown us ;) 

 steevie_wanders Says:  Loads of rock climbing round here!It's limestone galore.Get a local guidebook and head out there.I forget the name of the colossal waterfall climbing area in the pic. unfortunately. That was crazy - I didn't do that!

Have a funny sign language conversation with a guy carrying a big gun and wearing traditional hunting dress.Ride down again as fast as you like.Shout 'Weeeeeeeeeeee' as you come down..Optional extra: Go up, watch sunset, come down in the...

 steevie_wanders Says:  Massive slabs of cake and puddings! Also beer on tap. Very warm and friendly place, especially if you go in there every day.Typical scenario: walk 3-4 hours in the hills. Burn off 900 calories. Restaurant: cake + beer replace 900 calories plus 900 calories...Wouldn't be fun... 

 sandysmith Says:  On the ride up the Brandstl lift the fir trees were really laden with fir cones - I'd never seen so many, they must literally have been ready to drop. Don't forget to look at the scenery too as you glide effortlessly up. 

 steevie_wanders Says:  It's always pleasant to say hi to the cows. In Austria the polite form is 'Gross Gott' (Austrians please correct me on my spelling).The cows appreciate it and once you get to know them, they sometimes will play you 'jingle bells' using their own neck bells.Moo!
