Serfaus Things to Do

  • Small village running its own...

The thing is offficially named "Dorfbahn" and is in fact a small Underground with a train consisting of two coaches and has four stations named "Parkplatz" (parking area, no visitor's cars allowed in the village), "Kirche" (church), "Raiffeisenkasse" (bank) and "Seilbahn" (funicular). The underground track is 1,5 km long and the thing operates...

  • Skiing, Skiing. Skiing

No wish will remain open for the skiing enthusiast - provided there is enough snow. In the poor winter 2006/07 they were decently able to solve much of the problem with help of rather "violennt" high-tech - with (snow)-guns, (snow)-lances etc.

Serfaus Restaurants

  • Mountain Self-Services. Skihütte Masner

The most of restaurants that could be find up in the mountains are self-services. Usually they occupy big building with a big area in the middle of it providing skiers with a large selection of food and drinks and around of this area there are a lot of tables with chairs or benchs. Usually there is also sun-terrace outside the building. We had a...

Time remaining till the laser show begins

Laser show, ski school show and fireworks at night on the mountain.
Once a week one of Serfaus's gondola isn't closed for the night. It's necessary to buy the special ticket for the night ride (it's not included in the ski-pass).
Panoramarestaurant and some small cafes are working, selling hot gluewein or jagertea which helps very much not to freeze to death :) (in my case, it was around -25C)
The program starting with the snow show made by ski-instructors. Then fascinating laser show which is continued by fireworks.
Just to be at night high on the mountains above the village is already very interesting experience. And when it's accompanied with the show made the event "must to see"

Dress Code: It should be remembered that even if it's not that cold during the daytime, it's usually much colder in up there in the mountains. Especially at night.
So, I'd recommend to put on additional sweater under your skisuit, warm wool socks inside your boots and the thickest gloves you have.
And there is no need to take skies and skiboots with you ;-)

Serfaus Transportation

  • How to get to Serfaus from Munich

In our case the trip to Serfaus started in Munich (we had a plane from Moscow to Munich). The closest railway station to Serfaus is Landeck. And the shortest way from Munich is:1. To get a train from Munich to Innsbruck (about 2 hours)2. To get a train from Innsbruck to Landeck (about 1 hour)3. To take a bus from Landeck to Serfaus (about 1 hour)The...

  • Serfaus Subway

Serfaus is a small village but it's stretching for about 2km along the mountain. There is subway with 4 stations: near the car parking place (at the entrance to the village), 2 stops at the village center and one near the cable-car station.

  • The village with own subway

Serfaus is more or less a pedestrian car-free area, To achieve this they built about 7 years ago a genuine subway, one and a half km long, four stations called "Parkplatz", "Raiffeisenkasse", "Kirche" and "Seilbahn". When arriving by car you have to park it before you even see the village and walking a few steps you reach the entrance to an...

Serfaus Warnings and Dangers

It's not a danger at all :) Just a warning.
In case of having vacations in Serfaus during Christmas holidays, don't forget to choose the restaurant for the Christmas evening dinner (supper) and to reserve the table there beforehand.
And take in mind, that this night most of the restaurants start working only after 9pm.
Also, most of the food shops are closed for these days.

On the Edge of the Earth...

While skiing at Masner area take the Minderslift and on the highest point turn to the left (if to see from the lift). There is a two-humped peak (looks like a small Elbrus) behind the piste.
Cross the piste and go a few meters towards the peak. So close to the lift, pistes and people but so different from there!
Nobody around, it seems civilization is left behind your back.
There is only virgin snow in front of you and a slope to 'nowhere' without any ski-track. It's such a temptation to choose this slope to know if it's breaking leaving you no way down or it's coming to anouther village...
Just take a break, look at the sky, clouds, snow. A possibility to be alone with yourself.
For me the place unexpectedly became the highest and the best moment of our trip!

  • Masner Ski Area

Masner is the part of Serfaus ski area. This part isn't that big but it's rather special. It has such microclimate that makes the snow there very good. Masner is known to have only natural snow, there is no snow-cannons there! And the snow is really perfect even when it could be rather slushy at the neighbour areas. It takes some time to get to the...

  • Komperdell Ski Area

Komperdell is the main and biggest Serfaus ski area. Here everyone can find pistes to his or her taste and skills.I liked very much the pistes accessible by Sheidbahn and Obere-Sheidbahn lifts especially the black one Obere-Sheidabfahrt (you may find it on the left-hand side of the picture, "canyon" near the "triangle"). By the way, Obere-Sheidbahn...

  • Skiing with Kids

I'd like one day to come back to Serfaus with my (future) children :) It seems, everything is made to devoid any problems while having vacations with kids.Different kids ski areas, special funicular (Murmlis Kinderbahn), and even children toilets at the mountain restaurants! Unfortunately I took the picture of the 'Kinderschneealm' (the biggest...
