Skiing arena Gigijoch by mabu In Winter you go to Sölden for a good Party and of course for Skiing and Snowboarding. There are lots of different runs from the easy blue ones to the difficult and steep black runs. The Pistes are prepared excelent and if there isn't enough natural snow Sölden is equiped with everything needed to create artificial snow. The Skiing area is divided in these sections: Gigijoch, Gaislachkogl and the Glaciers Rettenbach and Tiefenbach. They are all connected together. Most Lifts are prety new and fast, so there isn't much waiting times. (See my transportation tips for more).

Tiefenbachgletscher Skiing area by mabu Not only in winter you can go skiing in Sölden. The Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers allow skiing the whole year. The glaciers are at 2'900 to 3'300 meters above sea level. As usual on glaciers there aren't much steep runs, most of them are blue and there are two red ones. In summer you can drive up to the Glacier, but you pay a road Maut.Website: www.soelden.com

If you want to score a different environment to sky, you have the occasion to do it in a tunnel; isn't that cool? Up to 3.340 m on track 38 you may find this tunnel. Enjoy it! Theme: Skiing/SnowboardingAddress: Track 38, 3.340m high

Of course everybody wants to have fun when is going to ski and think "there is no way to have an accident!" Nobody wants that, but S... happen all the time. So, the tip I want to share with you is about safety card in case of accident on track. During my trip to Sölden, every day somebody needed special transportation (snowmobile, helicopter, ratrack...) from tracks, transportation payed by the "patient", and is not cheap! Of course, having the safety card doesn't mean you are safe but, at least, save as much as you can after such a terrible thing and don't pay more. So, when you buy skipass, ask for safety card, it cost 10 Euro and if you have it and need it (hope not!) this special transportation is already payed. Let's pray you are going to loose 10 Euro! If you're a beginner like me (ski/snowboard), I think is not possible not learning how to do this in Sölden. The school cost 149 Euro (4 days), or about 250 Euro if you need equipment too (I'm not sure). Now, you have two options: 1. to learn on the same track with your friends (track 13 from Giggijoch), but in this case you also have to pay normal skipass. (in February, 230 Euro/5 days) 2. to learn down on track 50, just for beginners. In this case you have to pay a special skipass just for that track 10 Euro/day, is not valid on some other tracks. I choose the second option and after 4 days ski school I downhill together with my friends on red tracks. (blue is for beginners, red is medium, black is difficult) I met some guys who were able to go on black tracks after few days, but this depends on you and the group. Theme: Skiing/Snowboarding

In Spring, summer and fall, there is some beautifull hiking to be done with some breathtaking views. You can hike around here for days, and as most people go to the beach summer, it is pretty quiet here.
Good shoes, warm jacket, compas a map and some water is essential, except early spring, then you can eat some clean snow and get water in. Leave a Comment Theme: HikingDirections: All around Solden and the Otztal areaWebsite: www.soelden.com
