Snow Equipments Rental
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you travel by train or plane, taking your skis is a big hassle. Most people, including us, only bring their ski boots and rent other equipments at the resort.

Dave's Sport is where we rented the skis Charles used. We picked this place because of its location right in the village. (Later on, we found another ski rental place that would be even more convenient.)

The rate at Dave's is compatible with other ski rental places. He offers a 10% discount for a six-day rental and he also accepted the additional 10% discount card that was given to us by our landlord. In our case, Charles didn't ski on the first day and didn't want to ski on the last day, so there was only five days in the contract. However, Dave's just brushed it off and gave us the entire 20% discount anyway.

As with everyone else, Dave's offers overnight boot drying for a minimal additional charge.

Dave's Sport is located on Dorf 135 in Söll.

    Hiking to Brixen

Of course if you are feeling energetic or have a phobia about cable-cars, then walking down to Brixen would take 2-3 hours - probably hard going on the knees though!
On the way down you'll pass Lake Filzalmsee in Hochbrixen, Tyrol's largest reservoir with an expanse of water measuring 2 hectares. A feature at lake Filzalmsee is the Nordic walking school if you want to be really energetic!

On the opposite side of the valley to Brixen is Westendorf - again a gondola up here where paragliding opportunities seemed popular.
Please enlarge pic for the panoramic version!

    mountain biking the easy way!

Several path in this area are alo accessible to mountain bikes - best way in my opinon is to take the bike up in the gondola (this is allowed at several gondolas in the Bergwelt region) and then ride down. However some also see it as a way of exercising their dogs - enlage the pics and you will see a bike being pulled by two husky dogs!

    Bergwelt Panoramaweg
  • Tip Rating:
  • A lovely high level alpine hike can be taken from Hochsoll over to the Hartkaiserbahn top funicular station in Ellmau. (for an easier hike we did this in the reverse direction ;-) )
The alpine scenery on a glorious sunny spring day was stunning and our feet easily enjoyed the 5 hour walk - a good limbering up for harder walks later in our week.

    Hexenweg - Witches Path
  • Tip Rating:
  • At Hochsoell there is a witches path, called Hexenweg, which looked intiguing - not a long walk about 45 minutes - just follow these signs! Also the witches water path, the Hexenwasser, a 450 m long path which leads from the cable car to the Stöcklalm pasture, had 30 fun stations dealing with the topic of "water" in different ways: For example, there is a Kneipp basin, a barefoot path, a water maze and in between, of course, many places to rest and refresh.

    Hiking Options
  • Tip Rating:
  • The hiking options are endless and all so scenic. The paths are clearly signposted and we found the times to be fairly accurate even for me being slower uphill! A shorter hike than across to Ellmau would be to Hochbrixen where a gondola can be taken down to the valley village of Bxixen in Thale.
