A young Canadian died on the slopes of Stubaier when he fell into a crevice. Ski resort staff did not search for him at the end of the day when he did not return his rented equipment or remove his parked car, and local police dismissed the case. His body did not appear until 14 years later when the ice melted. The body had been lacerated by the...more
If it's a clear day, make your way up to the top of Tirol. You can do this by taking the red Eisgrat cable car to the top, then change to another cable car.At the top, you'll get spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, and I've been told that it's possible to see Venice with binoculars on a very clear day.more

My first experience with the Glacier of Stubai was on a cloudy november day, when I went to bring my work application to Paul - the Snowboard school chef. I did not like it, than, I still consider it not a place for me even after a season spent there, but it was worth the experience...more

This is the Slope No1, probably the most used one on the glacier, and even tho it is marked as a blue run , some areas shoud be displayed as red. Underneath lies the eternal river of ice, or in other words the glacier. It connects Icegrat with Gamsgarten. On the top part you have a parralel slalom parcours.During holidays it gets terribly crowded,...more

Mickey Mouse Kids Club Situated at 2600m by Gamsgarten it is the biggest Kinder area that I've seen so far. A huge Mickey mouse greets you at the entrance and the three magic carpets are there for your kids to save their forces learning how to ski, rather than walking uphill. The Stubai ski school is mainly children orientated and works in...more

Obviously when there is no sun it gets insanely cold at 2900m, and the freezing wind maked your fingers numb, but you still have to go out and give a lesson to that kid that has been waiting for long to learn how to snowboard....Actually most of all I hated the fog....You just don't see where the snow ends and where the sky starts - it's all the...more

We ordered taxis from this company to collect us to and from Innsbruck airport and found them to be reliable.
Shopping at the glacier is very limited. At the base station, there is a restaurant that also sells postcards, a small range of souvenirs, sunglasses, confectionery and cigarettes.
At Gamsgarten, there's the Intersport shop and rental, where you can buy ski/snowboard gear, and a little convenience store that sells souvenirs, postcards, snacks and confectionery, sunblock, cigarettes and magazines (in German).
At Eisgrat, the type of shops are the same as for Gamsgarten.
The rules for slopes behaviour are :
1.Always ski in control - with your behaviour you should not endanger the other participants
2.Adjust your riding speed according to your abilities, the terrain and weather conditions
3.Choose your way respecting the rule that those in front of you have the right of way. You are the one that should take care of not hitting them.
4. Overtaking is allowed by all directions, but at sufficient distance from the others so that you don't endanger them . Be careful especially when overtaking children
5.Avoid standing on spots where you are not seen from above - for example under a hill .
If there is an accident, make sure you put a sign for the ones coming from above to avoid futher collisions.
6.Respect the signs for closed and dangerous areas - they are there for a reason!
7.Dress approprietely ,wear gloves ,UV sunglasses to prevent snow blindness or even better Glacier glasses - DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE WHERE YOU ARE GOING!!!, UV sunscreen even by clowdy weather as 70% of the UV rays are passing through
8. Protect your kid with a helmet , gloves and with wrist protections for snowboarding.
HAVE FUN !!! BE SAFE !!!
Equipment: There are 2 Intersports shops at the Stubai Glacier - both offering ski/snowboard equipment for sale and for hire - at the Gamsgarten and Eisgrat stations. If you order your rental equipment online in advance, you'll receive a 10% discount.
