no restaurant, just a fish smoker: Great smoked trouts
This is not a real restaurant tip, but I was impressed of these delicious smoked trouts. We eat clearly more fish in Karelia than people eat here in Tirol but I must say that the preparation is perfect. The place where the trouts are grown and smoked is in Oberpettnau, about 8 km east from Telfs.
Favorite Dish: The freshly smoked trouts are best when they are still warm and the best is to drink a good white wine to it, we drank mostly a nice "Gruener Veltliner" from Lower Austria to it. Since the smoked trouts are ready every Thursday, Friday and Staurday about at 11:00 it is the best to be at this time right at the place, to buy them (13 EUR/kg) and to eat them somewhere with a good dry white wine. At the place itself they only grow, smoke and sell the trouts but it is no place there to eat them.
Stefan: Good quality, huge servings
The restaurant is situated in Bairbach, a 200 meters above the valley on the road from Telfs to Mösern and Seefeld, and it is a very scenic location. Just to mention that two former German Bundeskanzlers (K.G. Kiesinger and Willy Brandt) had once their X-mas holidays only a few minutes walk from there (at different places, of course). The restaurant is in a style which you find frequently among the family run restaurants in the area.
Favorite Dish: I tried a starter with mussels and a local style main course (pork medaillons with spinach spaetzle). It was a huge portion , quality was OK.
