Things to Do

Telfs seen from Mösern

Telfs seen from Mösern, Telfs

lotharlerch Says:  As you see it looks nice in all seasons, with or without the clouds covering the valley of the river Inn. If you want to check the actual weather etc. and what the panorama seen from Moesern looks like right now check the both webcameras - click to the link below!

Mieminger Plateau

Mieminger Plateau, Telfs

lotharlerch Says:  In Telfs the valley of the river Inn is wider than anywhere else in Tirol. And at both sides of the dominating mountain Hohe Munde are two Plateaus accomanying the valley above and below Telfs. Below (East) from Telfs it is the Saddle of Seefeld, a wide area between the...

Strassberg and Alpl, a great hike

Strassberg and Alpl, a great hike, Telfs

lotharlerch Says:  Being in Telfs a must is to walk (or drive, the routes are separated) through pine forests up to the Gasthaus Strassberg (all the year round, in winter often excellent tobogganing down from Strassberg). A few minutes from Strassberg you have to leave your car anyway....

Mösern, a panorama A. Dürer liked

Mösern, a panorama A. Dürer liked, Telfs

lotharlerch Says:  One of the most famous panoramic views in the area is the one from Mösern (a part of Telfs) to the West down to the valley of the river Inn. The famous painter A. Dürer used it as the backkground of a self-portrait which is today in the Prado in Madrid. Here a picture of it...

Hohe Munde (2662 m) - a long and very dry climb

Hohe Munde (2662 m) - a long and very dry climb, Telfs

Anjutka Says:  This is for somewhat more advanced mountain hikers. It can be reached either from Strassberg (short before the top you have here even to use the help of your hands, there are also some cables to help you to climb over the most difficult parts). The other way is from Buchen...

Restaurants

no restaurant, just a fish smoker: Great smoked trouts

no restaurant, just a fish smoker: Great smoked trouts, Telfs

Anjutka Says:  This is not a real restaurant tip, but I was impressed of these delicious smoked trouts. We eat clearly more fish in Karelia than people eat here in Tirol but I must say that the preparation is perfect. The place where the trouts are grown and smoked is in Oberpettnau, about...

Stefan: Good quality, huge servings

Stefan: Good quality, huge servings, Telfs

lotharlerch Says:  The restaurant is situated in Bairbach, a 200 meters above the valley on the road from Telfs to Mösern and Seefeld, and it is a very scenic location. Just to mention that two former German Bundeskanzlers (K.G. Kiesinger and Willy Brandt) had once their X-mas holidays only a...

The "Schleicherlaufen VT-meeting"

The "Schleicherlaufen VT-meeting", Telfs

lotharlerch Says:  After missing the Schleicherlaufen of 2000 and 2005 we (Globetrott, MEdelmann and me) met in my home for a rather "exclusive" (taking into account the number of participants) VT-member meeting January 29 - February 1, 2010. The most important topic of the meeting programme...

Schleicherlaufen

Schleicherlaufen, Telfs

lotharlerch Says:  This event takes place every fifth year in the carnival (most recent was on 30 January 2005). The origin are probably pre-christian myths around the fight of darkness and light or winter and spring. A lot of various fantastically masked groups (more than 500 actors, no...

Off The Beaten Path

- and if you are looking south..

- and if you are looking south.., Telfs

lotharlerch Says:  ...you see this scenery. And south of this mountain ridge (Grieskogel, Hocheder) is one of the highest skiing resorts in the area, Kühtai, where the skilifts start at 2000 m above sea level.

My home is off the beaten path

My home is off the beaten path, Telfs

lotharlerch Says:  "My home is my castle" and therefore off the beaten path. But if you, my dear VT friends, are in the area just let me know it, I would like at least to meet you for coffee or wine here in case I am not travelling myself . If I have time I can show you around and help you...

Great Cross-Country Skiing

Great Cross-Country Skiing, Telfs

lotharlerch Says:  Telfs is not known for famous downhill slopes but you find plenty of them in a distance of about 30 km around and Telfs can therefore serve as a quite economic place to sleep and to go every day to the different skiing areas in about half an hour or less by car. But what you...

Skiing far from skilifts

Skiing far from skilifts, Telfs

lotharlerch Says:  Skiing started in the Alps in late 19th century - without skilifts and funiculars, of course. But the more the Alps are exploited with all these means of transport the more people detect the charme of the "off-piste" skiing where you climb the tops on your own skis and can...

Beginning Winter

Favorite thing: Difficult to make it clear what is my most favourite thing about Telfs but come and see and you might understand it. If you are on my friends list and are around in the area or plan to visit it so just let me know, I would be happy to meet you and show you around. There have only four of my VT-friends visited me here so far (check oja's Innsbruck page or Anjutka'sTelfs page for that).

Fondest memory: What I really miss when being absent from here is the great opportunity just to walk a few minutes away from my home and to be in a great surroundings accessible for most of the Europeans only when they are on holiday. And the great various open air activities all the year round is the other thing I miss when being not here.
