    A Memorial to Anton Bruckner

    by ranger49 Updated Mar 16, 2009

We spotted this memorial plaque on an external wall of the Palace. Our guide had not "noticed" it before and could not tell us anything about it.

I wanted to know if Bruckner, one of the last great Romantic composers, who had been honoured by the Austrian Court in Vienna had actually died in the Palace - or if the plaque had been transferred from another place in Vienna, where he died.

The Plaque reads " In this house Anton Bruckner died on October 11 1896.

Any Music Buffs out there who can help on this one?

    Schloss Schonbrunn at night, Vienna

Most tourist will visit Schonbrunn during daytime, but Schonbrunn is very beautiful at night with its beautiful lights (see photo). Thanks to Michael (VT member globetrott), my wife and I managed to see this on our way back from the Wachau area to Vienna.

However, do note the opening hours (see webpage below) so that if you are interested to see the views at night (or during the dark hours), you can do your own arrangements.

The Maze at Schönbrunn Castle's park

The Maze was started between 1698 and 1740. In the old days, the Imperial family walked through these winding hedges. Today, you can do it too.

    Monument

There are monuments hidden all over the grounds of the Palace.

Look around to see how many you can find.

This one is out in the open on top of the hill but there are many many more.
