Schloss Wilheminenberg on Ice

by globetrott

Schloss Wilheminenberg ON ICE is an annual event and it starts togeather with the "Winterdorf" (=Adventsmarkt, X-mas-market) at around the 3rd saturday in November. The place for scating is quite small but it has an excellent view over the city of Vienna and also to the Schloss Wilhelminenberg. There is also a food-stand with a few standing-tables offering hot wine, punches and snacks like hot potatoes and also Kaiserschmarren. At other markets they took a deposit of 2 euros for the special cup, that you may see on my 1st pic. THERE they did NOT charge anything, so maybe it is not possible to take it home as a souvenir.Schloss Wilhelminenberg on Ice is open in 2009:Nov. 21st till January 24th, 2010Monday - Friday 02.00p.m. - 09.00p.m.Saturday, Sunday & holiday 10.00a.m. - 09.00p.m.entrancefee is 5,50 euros, children up to 14 pay 4 eurosEisstockschiessen : 250,- euros per track for 2...

Ice Curling Rink /Eisstockbahn in MQ

by globetrott

Ice Curling Rink Eisstockbahn in MQInside the Museums Quartier (MQ) you will find a big variety of winter-activities and one of them is the Ice Curling Rink, like shown in my main photo. We call it "Eisstockschiessen" and it is quite a popular sport in the alpine regions of Austria and Germany and you will have to try to get your "stick" as close as possible to another stick that is placed at the end of the track. Several players try to do so and each of them also has the possibility to push the "target-stick" and the other sticks away from its original position and so the game could be ended completly as a surprise. Mostly it is played by 2 teams fighting against each other You get all of the equipment there, you simply should have shoes that are not extremely slippery on the ice.
