For cardrivers : Kurzparkzone & Parking-tickets

by globetrott

When parking a car in the centre of Vienna ( mostly inside the Gürtel and a few more )you mostly have to pay for the parking during the day in several districts .There will be NO EXTRA signs for these parking-zones except white lines with spaces and at the entrance to the district the word " ZONE " is printed on the street in blue color (see my 2nd photo). And you have to buy parking-tickets in a newspaper-shop and put it behind the windscreen...And if you use e.g. 2 parking-tickets of 1/2 hour for 1 hour of parking - please make sure you fill out the SAME arrival-time on both tickets !This sound un-logical to you ? don't worry : WIEN IST ANDERS ! (means: 'Vienna is different!') - and that is exactly what it means ! - read carefully the backside of the parking-tickets - it is explained there clearly in best GERMAN! - Anyway, folks how about Parking-tickets in your hometown ? Would they...

When parking your car in Wintertime

by globetrott

There is an old law stating that whenever there are rails of a tram in a street in Vienna and only 1 track left over for the cartrafic in each direction, parking of cars is NOT allowed in these streets after 04.00 a.m. in wintertime, except in such streets , where a seperate space for parking exists (like a parking between the trees ).The idea behind this is, that the first tramways will start running at around 05.00 a.m. and there has to be enough space to remove the snow with big machineries. Most cardrivers are not aware of this law and not always you will get a "ticket" by the police, it will depend on the situation and on the mood of the policemen.

The Weihnachts - BIM

by globetrott

The Weihnachts - BIM"Bim" is the local dialect-expression for the tram of Vienna and the Weihnachts-bim is a brand new attraction and a charity-project by the local bakery "Stoerck". You have to pay 3 euros for the tram going around the Ringstrasse in a vintage-tram and a piece of bakery is included in that price as well. Santa Claus and lots of angles will sell the tickets and also the tram is fully decorated, enlage my photos in order to see the great details and dont miss the angle in my last pic !Weihnachts - Bim is going each advent-weekend :It only goes in 1 direction :against the cartrafic of Ringstrasse !Get in at these stations, buy tickets in the tram :Karlsplatz 01:00pm till 05.30pm every 50 min. Schwedenplatz 01:15pm Schottentor 01:25pm - Rathausplatz from 01:29pm, till05.59pm every 50min

50% off of all trains when you are under 26

by globetrott

Vorteilscard <26 :50% off of all trains when you are under 2650% off of all trains in Austria when you are under 26 and -25% for the part of the ticket that goes into other countries from Austria like: Vienna - Berlin : 50% reduction in Austria and 25% reduction in Czech republic and Germany on the way to Berlin. Important is that you buy the ticket all in Austria for the way throught to Berlin! "VORTEILScard <26" is a ticket that you may get at any train-station. You pay 19,90 Euros, bring a passport-pic and will first get a paperticket, later by mail you get something looking like a creditcard. Already the paperticket entitles you to buy and use tickets for half-fare right away!! On the distance Vienna-Salzburg you can save around 23,70 Euros one-way already !! because the ordinary ticket is 47,50 and with this card you pay just 23,80 euro. This ticket makes sense for any tourist...

Public transportatin system

by radu26

First of all: it's the best public transportation system I've seen! You can go to point A to point B (no matter which this point are) in no time, with airconditioned buses or metro's. All this are clean and I've never so a crowdy one in my 5 day long trip to Wien.About price: if u stay more than one day, it's a good ideea to take a Vienna Card, which give's u up to 3 day's of free travel, with every regular bus, tram or metro.U can find tickets on every metro station (on the ground to), but is expensive to travel this way. A pass for one day or more is wath you need.On main U Bahn station (this wolud be the metro station) u can find Information point, where you will be helped to make your trip beautifullBottom line: if you find yourself in Vienna and want a gret experience, walk or use public transportation system, it's all that u need.
