Every July and August the square in front of Vienna's Town Hall turns into a bustling hub for music-lovers. Every evening crowds flock to watch concerts and opera and operetta performances broadcast on a huge video screen. Just as popular are the food stalls that take you on a culinary journey across the globe - Mexican, Japanese, Greek and Austrian specialities can all be found. 01, Rathausplatz, Vienna Leave a Comment

by Motzl The Vienna MOZART Orchestra and internationally renowned singers and soloists - all in magnificent historical costumes and wigs - create a special atmosphere in Vienna's largest and most famous Concert halls. Principally, the choice of works gives an impression of an authentic concert of the baroque era. Leave a Comment

in the shadow of the flack tower by yooperprof Outdoor Movie Festivals! The Viennese love 'em. In the summer there are several outdoor film venues scattered all over the city and its suburbs. The most famous is the prestigious musical film series at the Rathaus in the Ringstrasse, but there are others that are certainly worth a view. An excellent series is put on at the Augarten - Kino Unter Sternen. Much to my regret, I only made it there once - but if and when I return to Vienna in summertime I'll be back. The films are generally shown in their original language, with German subtitles - which meant that I got to see the brilliantly catty 1939 comedy "The Women" (Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell, and Norma Shearer battling over a man) in English. The film festivals give the Viennese an opportunity to gather in public with friends, which seems to be something that they genuinely love to do. At the Augarten, there was a festive atmosphere as at a beer garden, with inexpensive brew and excellent food available for dining al fresco. Leave a Comment

a carriage of the Kaiser by globetrott When planning your trip to Vienna, make sure, everybody is at " home " when YOU get there !! Almost all attractions take a vacation, including the White Horses ( Lippizaner Hofreitschule ), Vienna Boy's Chorus, the famous Opera and theatres etc. Better check their web-pages before you book a vacation. Instead of these attractions there might be other attractions in summer, mostly at the so called " Wiener Festwochen " Leave a Comment

by Anya_D It's a universal truth that Vienna is the capital of music. You can see musicians playing on every corner. Visit the State Opera: it is an unforgettable event! The tickets can be ordered via internet in advance, or in your hotel. However, if you want to get them at a reasonable price, you should book in advance: I got two tickets for Katya and me on the last moment, and they were over 100 bucks. But it was worth every cent! we saw Les Contes d'Hoffmann, by Offenbach. Just spectacular! Leave a Comment

by Bjorgvin As a cultural centre of Europe, Vienna became home to many of the most famous classical composers of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Some of them were born there and lived there most of their lives, others stayed there over a period. Many of those great artists died in Vienna and are buried there. The list is longer, but here is a sample: Joseph Haydn (1732-1809), W.A. Mozart (1756-1791), Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827), Franz Schubert (1797-1828), Franz Liszt (1811-1886), Johannes Brahms (1833-1897), Franz Lehár (1870-1848), Anton Bruckner, Johann Strauss the Elder (1804-1849), Johann Strauss the Younger (1825-1899), Gustav Mahler (1860-1911), Hugo Wolf (1860-1903), Alban Berg (1885-1935), Arnold Schönberg (1874-1951). (They all died in Vienna except Liszt, Lehár and Schönberg).

by Krystynn If you're interested to know what important cultural events you SHOULD NOT MISS.... read on! Firstly, Vienna isn't known as the 'City of Music' for nothing. The summer open-air festival 'Mozart in Schönbrunn' and the annual performance at Schönbrunn Schlosstheater are shows not to be missed. The Vienna International Film Festival is another must-see event and it takes place every October. Photo Below: My dear little sister standing tall... here at the Schönbrunn Palace grounds...
