for sale everywhere: delicious chocolate
  • Tip Rating:
  • Buy some of the delicious Mozart chocolates that are on sale everywhere. They are so nice - especially if you love marzipan as I do - just don't blame me if it goes to your hips!.... one this size certainly would!!

They are quite expensive but worth it, boxes of all sizes and prices

    Timberland: Shoes
  • Tip Rating:
  • Well, this is nothing local of course, but as we do not have this brand store in Helsinki and our choice of shoes is so limited this store here was like breathing air to me, I could find the model I wanted and pay less then what I would be charge in Finland.

    Helmut Lang: Austrian Design
  • Tip Rating:
  • Helmut Lang's flagship store - Vienna
    Helmut Lang's flagship store
    by morgenhund
    Send Photo to a Friend
This Helmut Lang store, soon to probably disappear as the brand is being discontinued, is the flagship shop of the Austrian fashion designer Helmut Lang, who had like most living famous Austrians emigrated from Austria. It has his trademark minimalist window displays, checked floors and mainly monochromatic interior. The clothes are not too everyone's taste or wallet but if you know what you are looking for, then there might be something for you here.

Clotheswise Austria is not so at the forefront of fashion - Helmut Lang therefore is at the forefront of Austrian fashion.

an arm, a leg, or even a kidney, depending on how much you buy!

various supermarkets: Getting groceries etc. on Sunday and in the Night
  • Tip Rating:
  • As has been pointed out on VT approximately ten-thousand times, most shops in Vienna are closed on Sundays, including grocery stores / supermarkets. However, there are notable exceptions: 1) In larger railway stations and airports, there's often at least one supermarket that's open every day. In Vienna, there are Billa markets in the Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof and on Praterstern (Wien Nord), for instance. There are also stores specialising on travel food (e.g. "Okay"), but those are more expensive and don't have the full range of products of a regular supermarket. 2) Many petrol stations have small shops offering a limited range of products such as milk, cheese, sausage, bread, salted snacks and of course beer (which seems to be their major source of income). They're more expensive than regular supermarkets, but they're usually open until midnight or even 24 hours. There's one between Schwedenplatz and Schottenring, for instance.

    Food and drinks ;-)

ne dam svabi ni filira: skupo, skupo, mnogo skupo
  • Tip Rating:
  • This very short street, situated in the close vicinity of the cathedral, might be considerate as the shopping paradise for those who are followers of fashion, especially if looking for big names. It looks almost alike to Montenapoleoni street in Milano. This shops sales designed cloths only and each peice of it costs a fortune.

Most of the items looks very good, made of first class fabrics and very well designed.

    Very huge amount of €€€€€

    Haas & Haas: Tea world...
  • Tip Rating:
  • A nice cup of tea for 3,70 € at Haas & Haas is like a journey in time: you sit in the courtyard in a Biedermeier-like garden, you are surrounded by the thick old walls of the Haus des Deutschen Ordens (House of the Teutonic Order) and, at the same time, your bill is presented in the form of a digital printout. But Haas & Haas is also a great shop. Specialities from all around the world are presented. Tea is the biggest speciality...

    Billa: Cheap chocolate and presents.
  • Tip Rating:
  • Billa is just a supermarket like any other but great for cheap purchases. I bought a load of Milka and Mozart chocolate and alcohol here before i went home. It is way cheaper than in any of the other shops and there is a great variety if you find a decent sized store.

Milka chocolate, yummy. Mozart chocolate, great Viennese gift. Alcohol, way cheaper than home.

Alot less than anywhere else i found.

Bendinelli Home Store: Cheapest Cappuccino Around
  • Tip Rating:
  • I was browsing through the Kettenbrucken gasse (street) off the Naschmarkt when I came upon this shop called Bendinelli Home Store. They don't have tables and chairs for seating (maybe they will do this in the future), but they have stands and bar stools where you can park your butt for 10-20 minutes enjoying the excellent aromatic coffee. So, if you happen to walk by the Naschmarkt, just stroll over to Kettenbruckengasse 19 and enjoy a cup of excellent cappuccino or espresso.

It sells Italian coffee and food products from Bendinelli company. They also sell excellent Austrian wines, apricot nectar/syrup, schapps/grappa and jams. I was more interested in the hot coffee drinks made using the coffee beans sold by them. As side business, they sell espresso, cappucino & latte, and pastries.

The prices were really reasonable. I paid only Euro 1.50 for a cup of excellent cappuccino.

    Naschmarkt: Oldies
  • Tip Rating:
  • Is an incredible market... at the begin you can find vegetables and fish, feeling the spieces smell. And it is very nice. After the first permanent part, there is the Saturday Antiques object part. Here old discs old shoes and every used thing. At the very end of the market, I saw a lot of people (not austrian or european) selling mobile phones or other very expensive object... Stolen? Maybe...

You have to ask for the price, and don't forget that You can make the price if you are a good business man :-)
