There is so much shopping that can be done in Vienna and it happens to be something which I quite enjoy at weekends! If you are looking for more expensive shops then try the first district between U1 Karlsplatz and U1 Schwedenplatz on Kartnerstrasse or Rotenturmstrasse and along the Graben. Although there are now a few clothing shops which are at an affordable price, most of the shops in this area are famous Austrian names, which have been around for a long time. For Gucci, Cartier etc. try the Kohlmarkt at the end of Graben and some of the smaller streets which lead off of Tuchlauben. For a whole street of great shops try Mariahilferstrasse, in fact this is the best shopping in Vienna with lots of cafes in between (U2 - Museumsquartier, U3 – Neubaugasse, Zieglergasse or Westbahnhof (also U6), 2a, 13a or 14a buses, trams 16 or 18 to Westbahnhof). In the weeks leading up to Christmas, the whole area becomes pedestrianised to encourage mass shopping! If you are after somewhere slightly smaller but still good: also try Meidlingerhauptstrasse (U4 stop of the same name, U6 Niederhofstrasse, U6 Philadelphiabrucke, 10a or 59a bus, 62 tram or Badnerbahn) Another good place with more and more stores opening up is Favoritenstrasse (U1 Keplerplatz or Reumannplatz, 6 tram, 14a bus). For shopping centres try the Donauzentrum (U1 Kagran), Gasometer (U3) or if you take the Badnerbahn just out of the city limits to Vosendorf SCS then you will get to one of the biggest shopping centres in Europe – Shopping City Sud. For markets try the famous Naschmarkt (look at the things to see section) or for a Turkish feel - Brunnengasse (16th, U6 Josefstädterstrasse). And last but not least don't forget to try out the famous Christmas markets at Rathausplatz, Freyung, Spittelberg and Schönbrunn.... Shops close on Sundays and public holidays (except 8th December) although some corner shops and supermarkets at main train stations will be open. Shops are open from around 9 am until around 7pm depending on their owners! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

OK, I know its rare that a guy remembers a clothing store, but this one was worthy of it! I bought the best fitting jeans I have ever owned. And the don't shrink, which might be their best quality!! That begs a question from me. Why the heck do some cotton shirts shrink to a size that would fit my 8 year-old step sister, and other that I buy too large, thinking they will shrink, stay too big!! What is that??? Am I jinxed?? Anyway, this shop sells every kind of jeans / pants you could want, from every major comapny like Diesel, Levis, etc. But, I bought their namebrand, and they are the best of the lot!

 | | | | FRUTH Chocolaterie Patisserie au marche: Very Rich Yummy Cakes | Tip Rating: | | | | |
I was walking along the Kettenbrücken gasse when I came upon this new confectionery shop called "Eduard A. Fruth, Kuchen-und-Tortenmanufaktur". I happened to meet the owner one day in Dec 2006. I was browsing through the shop wondering what to buy for my best friend’s grandmother, who loves to bake and make great Christmas cookies. The owner used to work in Switzerland specializing in chocolates and other sweet/baked confections. Now he has retired & decided to open this shop as his hobby. He makes/bakes most of the confections in the shop and he uses high quality products in his foods. I ended buying 2 kinds of cakes, almond dragée (almonds coated with chocolate), orange cookies, and a chocolate mousse. All yummy... If you want to enjoy the confections without leaving the shop, you can eat it there and have a cup of coffee as well.
This shop specializes in high-quality bakery goods such as cakes (large & small), cookies, chocolate bon-bons, chocolate or raspberry mousse, uniquely flavoured chocolate spreads (chilli, chestnuts/maroni, etc.), chocolate-covered almonds, eclairs, etc. The sweet confectionary are all good and very yummy - rich, delicious, fattenting & a calorie bomb!
