Biking, Roller Skating and Co. In Vienna
Biking is a part of the every day life of many people who live in Vienna. There are special lanes on the streets for the bikers and a lot of people prefer to use them instead of the public transportation. It's the same for roller blading. During the summer, spring and autumn months every friday you can join many young people on their ride through downtown Vienna. Actually they are they are skateing arround the first district and the police stops the cars... If you don't want to wait till Friday you can go to the Donauinsel (Danube Island) where you can enjoy the sites of the Donau City and the green sites of the island.

During the summer months you can also play some beach volleyball on the Danube Island (it's close to the U6 Station called Handelskai).

Roller Blading in Vienna's Many Parks
During summer time, when the mountains have no snow and the city's ice-skating rinks are closed, the sport-loving viennese will put on their roller blades/skates and start roller skating around Vienna's many parks and skater-friendly lanes and pavements. Roller blading is very popular in Vienna. They even have a weekly night marathon for roller bladers, and it's held every friday night. There are many people joining this night marathon, that the police even got involved to control the traffic.

A pair of roller blades, safety gears such as kneecap and shin covers and skating helmets, comfortable cotton clothing, water bottle and nano iPod (for music lovers!).

I hate to admit it, but my favourite fun sport is crazy golf. To play in Vienna head to the Prater (U1/tram 5/S1/S2/S3 Praterstern). There are two golf courses, my favourite is the one behind the Riesenrad (big wheel).

    BOULES
There are 4 summer boules lanes in the Museumsquartier (near U2 Museumsquartier or Volkstheater. ) Rules are posted in German and English and you can hire the boules from the ticket counter.

    National football stadium
Another football related tip, but the Ernst Happel stadium resides in Vienna. It usually hosts the Austrian national teams' home games and probably cup finals??? It's not too far from the fair. England will be playing here in September, on the way to the World Cup in Germany.......???

    Vienna football
Besides the culture, Vienna is home to the two most successful football clubs in Austria. Rapid Vienna and Austria Vienna are big rivals and both play in the capital. This picture is of Rapid's stadium, the Gerhard Hanappi stadium. The easiest way to get there is via Metro (U-Bahn) Line U4 (to 'Hütteldorf')
