Oper / Staatsoper: Opera House
  • Tip Rating:
  • i had my stay near that Opera House, it means that my nearest transport station was Opera. The Opera House was almost totally destroyed in the World War 2, but soon after was reconstructed following the original plans (it was reopened in 1955).

Oper / Staatsoper: Staatsoper (State Opera House)
  • Tip Rating:
  • For many people this is the best opera house in the world. The State Opera House built in the 1860’s is one of the three most important opera houses in the world. The original building was almost completely destroyed during World War II, rebuilt using the original plans and reopened in 1955. The gold leaf curtain is something to be seen. You can close your eyes and just feel the atmosphere of a night at the opera. Unfortunately the opera was closed for the summer when I was there. If you want tickets to a performance while there, you need to book in advance. .

  • Tip Rating:
  • STAATSOPER, the Vienna Opera House Another great temple for music lovers, where takes place the Vienna Opera Ball (I'm not sure if that's what it's called in English) during the city's traditional carnival.

Oper / Staatsoper: Stadtoper: Don Giovanni?
  • Tip Rating:
  • Take a look at the world-famous City Opera House. Or better yet, catch a classical concert or opera if you can afford it! When first commissioned, high-society scoffed at it because the State Opera house was built on a low vantage point (some called it the house in the ditch), but people these days simply marvel at the structure where Don Giovanni was premiered more than a century ago.

Oper / Staatsoper: Inside the Opera House
  • Tip Rating:
  • Inside the Opera House. In the foyer is a bust of one of many great composers honoured here. Mahler was once a Musical Director in the opera house. Strauss is another composer honoured here. A night at the State Opera is one of the most impressive events you could hope to see in Vienna.

Oper / Staatsoper: The Vienna State Opera
  • Tip Rating:
  • This Opera House is one of the most famous Opera Theaters in the world. Some of the best directors of all times have performed here, the list is almost endless, but to name just a few: Mahler, Strauss, Krauss and von Karajan. The origins of this Opera House are not very fortunate; one of its architects (Eduard van der Nüll) killed himself because he couldn’t stand the negative reaction of the citizens of Vienna to his work. The other architect (August von Sicardsburg) died soon after too. The Opera House was almost totally destroyed in World War 2, but soon after was reconstructed following the original plans (it was reopened in 1955).
