  • Stadtpark is one in the middle of the town. As you could guess by name it is a park with a small pond in the middle of it. It also has few stuff for young people. It is very good to sit down on those bunches provided in the park and breath in fresh air.

    Ringstrasse: Das Rathaus
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Rathaus (City Hall) is a beautiful example of Neo-Gothic architecture. It was designed by Friedrich von Schmidt and built between 1872 and 1883. It holds the offices of the Mayor of Vienna, the Governor of the State of Vienna, the Assembly and the City Council. There is a restaurant in the basement called the "Rathaus Keller." I have not eaten there, but it has a pretty good reputation, even if it is a bit touristy. The Landtmann Cafe is one of the most popular coffee houses in Vienna and is right across the street from the Rathaus. This summer there was a film festival held in the park surrounding the Rathaus. I didn't stay for any of the films, but there were a lot of great food booths there.

  • This building was originally designed as the parliament building for the Habsburg Empire. It now serves as the Austrian Parliament building. The architecture is Greek, decorated with statues of Greek and Roman historians, statesmen, and scholars. The most prominent statue is of the Pallas Athene, the goddess of wisdom.-

    Ringstrasse: Parlament
  • Tip Rating:
  • This building is Austria’s Parliament. The lower house of Austria --the National Council, whose members are elected by popular vote-- and the upper house --the Federal Council, whose members are chosen by the states-- sit here. The building is on Dr Karl Renner’s Avenue. Renners was Austria’s first Chancellor at the establishment of the republic in 1918, and its president from 1945 to 1950 after the re-establishment of the democratic republic. The building was constructed from 1873 to 1883 by T. Hansen, he’s also the author of the Pallas Athenea Fountain that you can see in front of the construction.

  • Ringstrassen Galerien is next to Karlsplatz. It is very nice shopping mall. I did not buy anything from here but all the prices were looking reasonable. Vienna is generally expensive but here you can get some quality stuff. The place is most of the time full of tourists. come on and join your other fellows.

    Ringstrasse: Ringstrasse. Parliament House.
  • Tip Rating:
  • I don't have the picture of it unfortunately as there was a kind of repair when we were there and there were fences around of it. The finish of the building of Parliamen House was in year 1883, the architect of it was Danish architect Theopil Hansen.

    Ringstrasse: Ringstrasse - Ring Boulevard
  • Tip Rating:
  • Vienna Ring Boulevard is 4 kilometres long and circles the city centre. The construction of the Ring Boulevard was initiated by Emperor Franz Joseph I in December 1857. The magnificent road was errected on the free space, which emerged after tearing down the former city walls, glacis and military enforcements protecting the city center, today's first district ('Innere Stadt'). By this the emperor hoped to overcome the separation of city center and the suburbs, which had officially become part of Vienna in 1850. Ring boulevard was generously planned, leaving sufficient space for a shaded avenue and monumental buildings like Hofburg, Austrian Parliament, State Opera House, Museum of Fine Arts, the first public observatory Urania and Vienna university among others. Even though most buildings have been planned and build at pretty much the same time, their styles vary strongly. This mix of archiectural styles is often referred to as 'Ringstrassenstil' and takes its principles from Historicism. Various styles were copied to underline the function of the buildings: the Museum of Fine Arts and its counterpart the Museum of Natural History were built to resemble Italian Renaissance, so was the Vienna Opera House. Parliament echos Greek classicism as this was the epoch of the birth of democracy. The Ring Boulevard was ceremonously inaugurated on 1st May in 1865 and is one of the biggest and most beautiful boulevards of its kind.

    Ringstrasse: CITY HALL
  • Tip Rating:
  • Another beautiful building, errected in new-gothic style by Friedrich Schmidt. The building is separated from the Ringstrasse by Rathaus Park. This photo isn't a close one, remember it was a one day trip...and when I'd had more time...

    Ringstrasse: Parliament
  • Tip Rating:
  • Day 2 : Rathaus area / Ringstrasse As I continued my walk in the direction of the Neue Burg / Heldenplatz, along the Dr-Karl-Lueger-Ring, I passed the impressive Parliament. For a moment I thought that I was in Greece, but no no this was still Vienna. It was built from 1874 - 1884, and was designed by Theophil von Hansen. The building is richly decorated with statues of Greek and Roman history writers. And just in front of the Parliament building there is a beautiful fountain, the Athenebrunnen, Pallas Athena, Goddess of wisdom, dominates this fountain.
