Wonderful place to visit. The building is just huge. I would recommend to take the walk up the hill behind the palace to see a view of the city. I was there in April and was not the grounds were not to busy

You can go to see impressive Schönbrunn Palace - with its surrounding buildings and the huge park is one of the most significant cultural monuments in Austria. The castle was build to rival French Versailles in Baroque beauty and importance but House Habsburg lacked funds to outdo its rivalling nation France.
In earlier times it served as summer residence to various Habsburg rulers.
Really impressive and beautiful place which is worth to see.

Schönbrunn: Visit castles
You must visit the Schönbrunn castle (empress Sissi).
It is so impressive, the movies did not do justice to the different rooms in the castle.
Also you might want to attend a concert in l'Orangerie.
So many things to see around Vienna: the opera house, Stephansdom, several other castles.
You must walk the Kärntner strasse, so many elegant shops.

Schönbrunn: SchönbrunnCastle
a visit is really worth to the beautiful castle. I especially recommend the interestingly decorated toilets...they are painted like you were in a maze. And as we talk about the maze: there are 3 great mazes in the beautiful garded. One real maze with hedges and two for more creative creatures...don1t miss the "glockendanzspiel" which is a board on which you dance on it makes bell sounds and if you have a good sense of rythm and musical hearing than it's a great fun.
The garden itself is beautiful...especially in autumn..when thetrees all have different colours...
Don't miss the Zoo either it's great fun for kids and adults as well!!!

Schönbrunn: THE IRRGARTEN - MAZE........
great fun....

HEDGES: yew plants (Taxus Baccata) ± 1,000 trees...

length ca. 630 m
width ca. 0,8 m
height ca. 1,9 m

The old MAZE was laid out between 1698 and 1740 and consisted of 6 sections, each with a different design and had a total length of over 3 km..

Over the following Century the MAZE was dradually simplified until 1892 the last remaining section was cleared.

In Autumn 1998 work was started on a new MAZE at Schönbrunn, which is based as far as possible on its historical predecessor.

At the centre of the MAZE is a viewing platform and 2 energy-giving harmony stones activated by Master of Feng Shui Prof. Dr. Jes Lim and his wife Julie Lim.
