If you have a car be careful....
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you have a car be careful. If you are parking on the street you must purchase parking slips that are good for periods of 1/2 hour. If you don't have those slips then be ready for a ticket or towing.

  • Tip Rating:
  • The music museum inside the Hofburg could be interesting if you are really into old instruments. The earphones that were supposed to play music from various old instruments as you passed by them didn't work often. Maybe if the earphones had worked I would not list this as a tourist trap.

    Watch where you walk!...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Watch where you walk! Austrians have lots of dogs and if you don't want to clean your shoes all the time.. walk carefully.

    Wrong subway station! He..he.....
  • Tip Rating:
  • Wrong subway station! He..he.. We learned that we can't just cross the railway to go to the other side. I must read the map carefully to take the right subway from the right station. :)

  • Tip Rating:
  • Hmm.. sad to say that I don't speak German. My Japanese friend speaks German and she helped us a lot. Although English is not a favorite language there, I think there should be at least sign/instruction in English for tourists. One woman yelled at my friend when she asked if that woman could speak English 'DO I HAVE TO SPEAK ENGLISH?'. Well, this is a very nice city, but not knowing what to get there is very frustrating. Like the menu.. I think it should be a brief explanation in English.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Please don't take that lame carriage-ride around the Ring, the so-called Fiaker. If you do, you'll get the following results: (1) Viennese people staring strangely at you and assuming that you're American (2) you'll be out something like ATS 700 and (3) your clothing and hair will smell like horse-crap at the end of the ride.

    The Prater
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Prater: This is Vienna's year-round amusement park, where you can find the famous Riesenrad, a ferris-wheel that used to be one of the great 7 man-made wonders of the world. Ride the Riesenrad (slow enough that your stomach doesn't complain) and you'll have a great view of the city. Business men often have lunch in the posh cabins, and some people even get married there. Where else in the world can you find a ferris wheel so elegantly decorated? On the evening of 5 July, I attended a dinner reception at the famous Schweizerhaus - the servings are very large, and the giant mugs are overflowing with beer. This restaurant is large enough to accommodate more than a thousand people (and that's just the outside garden!) What are you waiting for? Have a hearty meal and then ride the roller-coaster! It won't be raining men, but rather, it will be raining Wiener Schnitzel for the people on the ground (just kidding).

    When people come to Vienna,...
  • Tip Rating:
  • When people come to Vienna, they often want to immediately see the dancing white horses. If you really love horses and their shows, and you like to spend money, then you should head in the direction of the Lippizaner Museum and the Spanish Riding School. You will find both inside the First District.
