This English saying "look what the cat dragged in" gets a whole new meaning in Vienna. The CAT is the City-Airport-Train of Vienna and a comfortable connection between Schwechat Wien International Airport and the Passenger terminal in the centre of Vienna. So, be careful in using this phrase, as it probably will be "you" as a tourist that the CAT dragged into Vienna!

by airplane to Vienna: Austrian airlines and Niki
We fly standby (employee discount) and that's why we flew with 2 different airlines. With Austrian we had all the amenities one can expect from a non low-cost airline so I have nothing new to say about it.

Niki I wanted to try since I saw that they fly to my airport (ARN). I hoped that Niki Lauda would be piloting my plane but he wasn't the captain then :p I'm very impressed of the quality of that airline. From the service to the aircrafts, one wouldn't believe one is flying with a low cost airline - they to me are "cheap (or affordable if you don't book early in advance) luxury".

by airplane to Vienna: Austrian Airlines
I flew from Tel-Aviv to Vienna by Austrian Airlines. I changed planes and continued to Helsinki (Finland). On the way back I stayed 4 nights in Vienna, then continued to Budapest by train for 13 nights and returned to Vienna by train to catch the plane home.
The return flight ticket TLV-VIE- HKI cost 766 US $ per person. (It would have been cheaper if I hadn't made the long stop in Vienna)
Austrian Airlines is one of my favorite airlines. The connection to Finland is very good from Vienna. (This is the second time I used this route)The planes and the service is good. Their vegetarian meals are real good -highly recommended to become a vegetarian for their flights if not for all life.

by airplane to Vienna: Vienna Airport
Vienna International Airport is a nice, modern airport located just 20-30 minutes from downtown by auto or train. It has 2 terminals and 3 concourses serving about 80 airlines and serving as the home airport and hub for Austrian Airlines. Upon arriving at Vienna, we quickly went through customs and flowed through to the transportation area. We found a money exchange, picked up a few Euro, then headed toward the bus area.

Transportation to and from Vienna International includes direct Bus (6 EUR/person - 30 minutes), express CAT train (9 EUR/person - 16 minutes), local train (3 EUR/person) or taxi (23 EUR).

As could be expected, prices in the airport are very expensive... for example, a tall Starbucks cappuccino cost 3.50 EUR.
