Even if taxis seemed to me more expensive than in other capitals once you are 2 or 3 travelling together with luggage they are competitive considering price, comfort and security.
The CAT costs 9 € to which you have to add a ticket at 1,80 € for your transport from Wien-Mitte to your hotel and you have to carry your luggage from one transport mean to another, plus walking (maybe under the rain) and being (maybe) a target for pickpockets.
An official taxi (usually Mercedes) from the airport to the centre of Vienna at the door of your hotel costs 39 €. Divide by 2 or 3 and compare with price and less comfort of the public transport.

If you are travelling to Vienna from other continents, then you will arrive at the Vienna International Airport. The airport is modern, clean and well-organised. The airport is not very big, and is easy to navigate.
The official website of the airport is below. If you want to check arrival and departure information, you can go to:

For such a long journey from Singapore, We choose Qatar Air to Wien with a stopover at Doha. Since we were all smokers back then, this short stopover was a welcome break from the long haul. After all, Getting to Europe is expensive as it almost costs our family 5k SG $ just for the flight. Do check out Qatar Air website for more info or deals.

Vienna airport is the intersection of travel from central-Europe to the Balkan. Austrian airlines has several flights to all the countries in the former yugoslavia.
The airport is old, and the seating capacity at the gate could have been better.

There are many good deals to come to Vienna with german wings and air berlin. For example, you can buy a ticket from Dortmund-Vienna for as little as €50 return. Check the internet sights, and see what you can find. This is a cheaper (and faster) option than driving or taking the train.

There were two companies that I saw offering bus services from Bratislava Airport to Vienna - Blaguss and Terravision. Both cost 10 euro one way or 16 euro return. I took the Blaguss bus as it was just leaving when I left the terminal building. Tickets can be bought from the departures terminal or directly from the driver. The bus arrived 1 hour and 20 mins later in Vienna's Erdburg international bus/u-bahn station. The station is on the U-bahn line 3.

We fly standby (employee discount) and that's why we flew with 2 different airlines. With Austrian we had all the amenities one can expect from a non low-cost airline so I have nothing new to say about it.
Niki I wanted to try since I saw that they fly to my airport (ARN). I hoped that Niki Lauda would be piloting my plane but he wasn't the captain then :p I'm very impressed of the quality of that airline. From the service to the aircrafts, one wouldn't believe one is flying with a low cost airline - they to me are "cheap (or affordable if you don't book early in advance) luxury".

The boarding passes issued by Austrian Airlines in Pristina, Kosovo are not recognized in Vienna International Airport. As such, you have to visit Service Center #2 in Vienna to get your boarding pass reissued upon arrival in Vienna. This is a pretty straight-forward process, but is required.

Because of the short notice we had for our stay in Vienna, all direct cheap flights had long been booked. The same was true for specials for the train. We didn't want to drive , so I started looking again at flights and came across the pages of Swiss Air. We got our flights through Switzerland, first Zürich, then Geneva, for about 25% of what a direct flight from Frankfurt to Vienna would have been. We booked Swiss Air and flew Lufthansa, Austrian Airways and Tyrolean Airways, a bit tiring because of the waiting in between flights, but generally very good service. I'll never understand the way the airlines make their money, though.
