Austrian Airlines is the flag carrier airline of Austria, with its headquarters in Vienna. Its main base is Vienna International Airport (VIE). In 2006, Austrian Airlines dominates the market for flights from/to Central- and Eastern Europe.
Austrian's longest routes are from Vienna to Melbourne and Sydney, Australia, via Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, respectively, which will end on March 25, 2007. Scheduled services to Shanghai will end from 7 January 2007, flights to Phuket, Mauritius and Colombo and Malé will end from April 2007 and those to Kathmandu in May 2007.

It's the first time I used austrian airlies to fly and I would reccomend them as the best ones. Both flights were extremely smooth , service was impeccable , everything on schedule . At the same time the flight of Bulgarian Air to Sofia was delayed because of fog on the Sofia airport. Not the one I was on with Austrian Airlines. On the same day we landed , the airport was closed just before and short after . Excellent!!!!

This English saying "look what the cat dragged in" gets a whole new meaning in Vienna. The CAT is the City-Airport-Train of Vienna and a comfortable connection between Schwechat Wien International Airport and the Passenger terminal in the centre of Vienna. So, be careful in using this phrase, as it probably will be "you" as a tourist that the CAT dragged into Vienna!

You can easily get to Vienna through Wien Schwechat International Airport. The airport is located near the village Schwechat and well connected to the Passenger terminal of Vienna. Austrian Airlines has this airport as main base and connects towards many European capitol as well as larger towns and places outside Europe.

I arrived and left Vienna by plane. Vienna's International airport is located in Schwechat; about 18 km southeast of Vienna. It is the main hub of Austrian Airlines, but also served by many other airlines.
The best and cheapest way to get to town is by the suburban train S7 which is almost as quick as the overpriced City Airport Train (CAT). Please note that the Airport Station is located just outside the central public tranportation zone, therefore you need a ticket which covers two zones.

I came to Vienna by plane from Germany. I think there are a lot of aircrafts that have fights to the city. Then you may get bus for EUR 6 that goes to Westbahnhof or get S-Bahn to the center of the city.

In 1993 and 1994 I arrived by air. Many ailines serve Vienna so you should have no problem geting a flight. I flew with Air France in 1993 and British Airways in 1994 as back then Aer Lingus didn't go. But now in 2006 you can get flights from almost every part of the globe to this magical city.

Via the website if Divantoura, a Belgium travel agency from Gent, I booked an open jaw flight. So first from Brussels to Vienna and then a return flight from Prague to Brussels.
The price was 200 euro (taxes included).
As we were driving to Brussels national Airport, I had doubts about the departure time as the re was a thick fog over the Brussels region. But no problem at all, there was no delay.
The flight time was only 1h35, a rather short flight. So there was only time for a small lunch box filled with cake and some candy.
As we arrived in the Vienna Schwechat airport it was very busy, so maybe it was rush hour I the sky. Maybe that was the reason we needed to wait for about a half an hour before we got our luggage.

I flew to Vienna with the wonderful Austrian Airlines. Great service (food/snacks have to be paid for) but tea and coffee are complimentary with a free chocolate wafer.
I really enjoyed this flight as they show the plane's route on a screen above your seat so you know exactly where you are, the altitude, speed, temperature etc etc. at any given time.
On the way out there I chatted to a very nice and helpful Austrian girl who told me about the CAT train (it actually sounded like the C80 train -so there was a little bit of confusion - but only for a minute :))
