This is a more of a warning for potential tourists... in the year 2005 when I was in Vienna there was extensive work being done on quite a few musuem's. Facades hidden behind scafolding, closed exhibits, and general displacement. I am not sure when works are scheduled to be completed, but I would most definitely check that the museum or building you wish to see is in fact open to the public. Such a lovely city to be hidden away from view. Leave a Comment

Try not to go out on your first night in Vienna on a tour of the city. I thought it would be easy following the Ringstrasse without a map or knowledge of the city. Finally asked somebody where I was in basic German and was about 45 minutes from the centre in the opposite direction from my hostel. Cue a long walk back through all sorts of streets, guess you could call it off the beaten path??? Leave a Comment

Watch out when you play the games in Prater. They don't charge per game you play but rather by how many tries you take. Also, keep track of how many tries you've taken because some guy ripped me off by saying i threw 5 more balls then i really did. I couldn't really argue with him because he barely spoke english. We just came back from a river cruise with Grand Circle. This company targets seniors . To make a long story short a nasty viral illness broke out on the ship after about 4 days .This was not the Norwalk but an serious upper respiratory infection that affected at least 75% of the passengers . Some people were taken off by stretcher to hospital . We heard even the captain had taken ill. What alarmed my husband and I was that the crew had no clue how to stem the illness and there was no full time MD on board . I even came down with the bug and I'm a very healthy 52 woman . We recently came back from a great trip to Vienna, staying in the first district in a lovely hotel, which shall remain nameless since the event which took place has happened elsewhere but was the first occasion for this place. There is a man (probably he is not the only one playing this type of game), no racist intentions here but he looked very like a Sikh without the turban (may or may not have had a beard). He was dressed very smartly in a light grey (I believe checked) suit, with a mobile phone, laptop/briefcase. He went past me rather quickly so the lasting impression I had was of a smartly dressed Asian in rather a rush after receiving a phone call on his mobile. He was shortly followed by a poor lady shouting after him that he had taken her purse (U.S.; clutch bag?). A taxi driver at the door paid no attention whatsoever. Needless to say, I don't know whether the thief ran or not but he had vanished pretty quickly. This Asian man had been masquerading as a hotel guest at breakfast. The mobile ringing was obviously a ploy for his escape as he put it to his ear and left. He had been seated near to the lady who had left her purse while going up to the buffet table. Saw his chance, grabbed the purse and made off. I would have paid little attention if it hadn't been for the fact he practically walked into me and it struck me as odd that a hotel guest would have to go off so urgently in response to a mobile call. Beware at breakfast. Especially in hotels where the reception does not have a clear direct view of the entrance, or where the entrance doors are automatic (unfortunately this aids escape). Do not take your purse or valuables to breakfast with you unless you can balance your breakfast tray/plates with your gear. Leave valuables at the desk or locked in your room. Where possible don't keep all your money, tickets, passports etc all in one place - if they are found you could lose the lot. This lady was very lucky in that the thief took her cash and threw the purse and remaining contents outside a guest house, so she got her passport ad tickets back. Don't expect a great deal from the police - I dropped in to give what I could of a description: it was simply noted on a piece of paper (a piece of paper not any kind of form). Other Contact: First District

While hanging around the nightspots in this city I bumped to those girls offering to take alcohol test, oh well, I don’t mind but paying for that more then a pint of beer is a rip off. And really, between us, look at those girls in the photo, who do you think need’s to be tested? Leave a Comment

Yeah obviously skiing and drinking is dangerous but if you are there for skiing watch the apres ski back at home base. You get merry that little bit easier at altitude and falling asleep in the snow will most likely leave you as a corpse with a puddle of yellow snow around your waist area. Leave a Comment

although the prater, theme park, is great during the day its quite dangerous at night, that whole district, the 2nd, would not be the safest area to be in at night, theres a lot of gangs hanging around the prater Leave a Comment
