  • if you are driving a car and are from the states you will find driving here scary (especially in the cities) the roads are very narrow and there are a lot of one-way streets (there are no 'stop all way' signs) on the highway when driving on the fast line be aware that even though the speed limit is 130 km/h virtually everyone in the fast lane will drive faster than that.

  • try to avoid going on the u-bahn during rush hour or in the summer. it can become very hot and smelly in there.everyone i know has become claustrophobic in there at least once.

  • I was walking back from a nightclub with two friends and a drunk guy came up to us. Without warning, he punhed me in the face and then punched my friend in the arm. We all ran....I'm not getting killed by some drunk guy!

  • as bright and taken care for many historical old buildings in the inner city in vienna are, you can find there many large unaesthetic on the computer constructed blocks like the meiselmarket building, which should represent a ship but is only a senseless amount of stones with the coronation of mac donald's signs shining like christmas decoration the whole year. i will spare you a picture of it! ;-) you can find a lot of such buildings yourself if you open your eyes and go a little out of the centre with metro or bus or tramway.

    Don't wear black shoes when walking through Schoenbrunn Park. The ways are whiten with chalk and you will have white shoes when leaving the park.

  • Although I didn't go there, I have been warned about the Prater Amusement Park after dark. Apparently it attracts a lot of unsavory characters at night. Perhaps this has always been this case-If you've ever seen The Third Man you'll understand.

    You should be very careful in Vienna around easter... the rabbits grow hard shells and wheels, it's really quite scary!
