The calm countryside around Mauthausen. by xristos83 I don't have any pictures of the actual concentration camp scanned (I took some with a regular camera), but I have this digital picture of the countryside around it. It was such a contrast to see the rolling hills with yellow flowers and nice little Austrian cottages in the distance after coming out of a Nazi concentration camp. At first, I didn't even want to go to the camp, but now I'm glad I did. It's definity worth a trip to one of these camps just to understand and actually see the evil that can come out of humanity...(note: I am NOT saying that Germanic peoples are evil! Humanity CAN be at times...in the USA we had camps (not death ones but certainly humiliating) for the Japanese, and we are still just as bad as anyone else for some of the things we do now. Church in Salzburg by xristos83 We took a walk around town at night and found quite a few nice pubs and cafes. I really liked this church; there is nothing more special about it than any of the other million churches in Europe, but it caught my attention. Leave a Comment

Riverside buildings in Salzburg by xristos83 I only got to spend one night in Salzburg unfortunately. I really wanted to go up to the impressive looking fortress on the hill dominating the city. Also, I would have liked to have visited Mozart's birthplace and see the museums. Walking along the river (it's very clean too!) and into the lower town was nice though. Leave a Comment

FLOWER by eden_teuling It is very relaxing to go hiking in Austria.... There are many foot paths and well marked. First you can go up the mountain by cablecar or funicular and once near the top you can start your trip...... It is always wise to keep an eye on the skies, weather can change quite quickly and once you are in the fog.........the only thing you can do it wait........sit down and wait, lolol! There are wonderful flowers to admire, never pick them but have your camera at the ready! Leave a Comment

The Zell am See is one of the must see regions to visit if you are touring Austria. There is much to do and see here to keep you busy for several days. I primarly came here for the hiking and its access to the Krimml Falls, which can be visited by a short bus trip. The town itself is picturesquely located on a glacial lake surrounded by high mountains, some 3000 meters high. Although for me I visited Zell am See for its outdoors attractions, there are sights of a historical and artistic nature in the town itself. Zell am See dates from the 8th century and there is a 11th century church and a fine tower from that same time, the Kastnersturm. Zell am See also has an abundance of decent restaurants and some fun if touristy bars.
For me the highlight of the region around Zell am See is the wonderful hiking. There are so many trails that it is difficult just deciding where to go if your time is limited. Leave a Comment
