You must go to the old part of the city and visit both the cemetary there and the cathedral. The cathedral is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. It's primary colors are royal blue and white with a stunning gold altar. ALso visit the platz just below the Hohensalzburg. Grab some apple struedel and something to drink and sit by the horse fountain and watch the people go by........ Gazing over the city from the Hohensalzburg fortress above. What a gorgeous place!
I would say the theatre festivals in Salzburg. It's every summer. There are a lot of plays. From the famous (medieval?) 'Jedermann' over Mozart to Shakespeare there's something for every taste.Even if you're not in theatre and this kind of thing you should try it. It's not like a boring opera. I miss the food most. There's a lot of excellent austrian food, and as austria once was a multi-cultural empire one will find a lot of different meals...
When travelling to Austria one must vist the canton of Tirol! Innsbruck is located centrally there, in the Inn River valley. The most spectacular skiing and hiking is in Tirol! Quainte undisturbed mountain villages surround the mountains...a must see! The green pastures and gorgeous mountains!
hike in the mountains and visit in Innsbruck the mountain zoo with all these bird of prey. They were so great. Some of them had a span of more than 4m. My fondest memory of Austria was when I and my Grandparents hiked in the mountains and the weather was so great in October that you thought it was summer. And when you hike in the mountains and enjoy the graéat nature and the animals and all. The best was when we came to a source and the water was so clear and cold that you can drink that water. It was realy great.
go to the Salzburg town square at night. It is alive with activity. With the group that I was in, we played games til the early morning. It was an adventure I will never forget. I loved the beautiful scenery of Austria. Everything is so green and so beautiful. We went in the summer and it was the perfect temperature.
