INNSBRUCK

by Sharrie

INNSBRUCK: Its mountains & crystals. Innsbruck does not have Vienna's elegance, what it has is charm. The delicate designs of its painted houses are something one'll appreciate long after visiting the city.

Hofburg, Vienna

by Sharrie

HOFBURG (the Imperial Palace) State Apartments & visit its TREASURY: where Franz-Joseph I and Empress Elizabeth (the very beautiful and noble Sissi) once resided. A visit to the Treasury (at least 3 hours are required in order to see most of the display) leave a lasting impression. The insignia of the Holy Roman Empire and the 8th-century Holy Lance, Scepter of Austria are all kept here. An eye-opener for me!

Schonbrunn Palace, Vienna

by Sharrie

Visit SCHONBRUNN PALACE, the former summer residence of the Habsburgs. The palace was built by Austrian architect J. B. Fischer von Erlach modelling after Versailles. The palace contain 1441 rooms. This delightful palace is one of Habsburgs' favorites and the Apartments of Franz-Joseph and Sissi are opened to the public for viewing. The Porcelain Salon and the Vieux-Lacque-Zimmer where rooms were filled with Chinese prints, porcelain and exotic screens are particularly interesting.

VIENNA

by Sharrie

VIENNA: Palaces, churches & museums are one of the best in Europe & the world. This is the place where I learned to appreciate Europe. Not France, but Austria. Just my personal experience. I spent about 5 days in Vienna but have one of the best memories of my life. There are so much to discover & delight in! I'll definitely be back in the near future!

Ellmau

by sandysmith

Ellmau is my favourite tyrolean village, situated between the Wilder Kaiser, with its jagged dolomite -like peaks, and Hartkaiser mountain ranges. There is an extensive network of hikingh trails on both sides of Ellmau. The Wilder Kaiser is rugged and is hard walking but rewarding scenery - no cable-car here!On the Hartkaiser side you have a funicular in Ellmau and Gondolas at Going And Scheffau (villages either side of Ellmau) which make for great circular hikes. More info on my Ellmau page.

Roadside stop

by TinKan

There is a little roadside stop called the Zirlerberg Rast coming down the hill to Innsbruck from Mittenwald Germany that you should stop at. It offers a great view of the valley and has some great food. There are numerous pictures of road races that have taken place over the years up the mountain road. Take a stop here and have a look around.
