Places to eat in Austria: Don't miss the Austria Melange cafe

by Tobias_Plieninger

The Austrian kitchen is very good. There sweet specialities and a kitchen similar to the German kitchen. One thing you shouldn't miss is the Melange Coffee. It is difficult to describe so check it out by yourself. There are many nice cafes in which you can do this.To eat I would recommand a apfelstrudel or a Sacher Torte. In general prices are affordable. On some tourist attractions the prices are extremely high. Another Austrian speciality is the Wiener Schnitzel. The Wiener Schnitzel is a piece of porc.In Austria there is also a good variety of wines available.

Info for non-German speakers

by mandybailey

A little advice, brush up on your German because there were very few menus displayed in English, but dont worry - everywhere we went the staff were very helpful and made it simple for us to choose a meal that we liked the sound of!This was especially true in little Italian restaurant (sorry I cant remember the name) but it's on Gstattengasse, the owner there was lovely and he even put together a dish that wasn't on the menu for my fussy-eater friend, the food was delicious, try the salmon gnochi!Avoid the Elephant restaurant that's joined to a hotel in the centre (just off the main street), very overpriced for what you got I thought!

Stieglkeller: Just like Oktoberfest

by wheatie

Just a hike up the hill from the fortress. You walk into an enormous building and have your choice of sitting in one of several very large communal rooms. Just like a beer hall in Germany. You then visit the various food stalls in the "hallway" and pick what you'd like to eat. Then you go to the beer area and pick out your enormous stein, wash it, hand it to the server who pours your beer for you. Head to your table and enjoy the food and atmosphere. The food is good, not great, the beer is outstanding, and the atmosphere is what makes the place. Definitely worth a visit for a meal. Is beer a dish? :)The schnitzel was ok. The soft pretzels were great. Tons of choices for food.

Krimml Tauernhaus

by Helga67

After a 1.5 hours walk from the top of the Krimml waterfalls along alpine pastures, you will reach the Krimml Tauernhaus. This hut is over 600 years old and was an important base for many merchants and hikers who already used this crossing point in the Middle Ages. It's an excellent place to rest and have something to eat or drink. The interior is lovely, and there is a little playground for children.

Famous cafe: Cafe Tomaselli

by nhcram

This is the oldest cafe in the city of Salzburg and the longest serving cafe still in existence in Austria, under the ownership of the Tomasellis since 1852. It is a wonderful place for people watching and the cakes are lovely. It is also rumoured that Mozart preferred this café to any other.I must admit the waiters were not very friendly and you were asked to pay to use the loo! The cakes were nice and fresh

Bars and Cafe's

by dr.firas

I learned there is a special thing about old bar's or cafe's in Vienna, the special atmosphere of joy, when people take their arms in arms and start singing all together, it is hard to fall in the occasion, but trust me when you have this chance, you can consider yourself as a lucky person!

Don Giovanni: Italian high quality Restaurant in Vienna

by dr.firas

Don Giovanni is simply a wonderful place, we were searching in the streets Angelika and I for a Hotel so I can spend the night as Angelika was about to leave to Bratislava, and we asked the nice wiater how to go, and he showed a coutesy in explaining to us how to go, so after finding the hotel, we decided to have the dinner in that restaurant as the waiter was so gentel, and we were not disapointed, the service is great, the food is yummy, the place is great decorated, the atmosphere is cool, and the prices are really wonderful, so this is a restaurant I advice everybody to go to when you are in Vienna!
