Ottoburg: Ottoburg

by Rhondaj

The restaurant consists of several small rooms, each with its own ambience. We ate downstairs. From the window by our cozy table we could watch the pedestrians on Herzog-Friedrich Strasse. Waitress was friendly and attentive. Chef came out to say hello.(One of them.) They have a chef for each food category! Meat, vegetable, dessert etc. A dinner for two, including 2 Austrian entrees, a shared dessert, and more than a few beers cost just under 60 euros. Austrian fare

Zum Statten des Goldenen...

by maitredelang

Zum Statten des Goldenen Hirsch/the Heersh; Kirchestrasse, slightly up the coblestone street south of the GWL department store had the most wonderfully homecooked meals and the friendliest staff, even during the political strife against the US. They had 'menus' or daily specials fo ususally one entree, one side item (ususally veggie) and bred I believe for like $2.50 or something so ridiculously low in price. It certainly kept us students fed in troubled times. Not only that, the food was mom-and-pop-style tasty. Give it a try, if you're ever in Bregenz (am Bodensee). The Hirsch is about 5 blocks or 1 km from the train station. Although I don't have exact directions, ask someone where the Goldener Hirsch Restaurant is, and some local should tell you. Ask for the Tagesmenue for a good deal. If you're up for pizza, try Pizza Charleys near the Goesserbraeu brewery. Unless you REALLY love...

There are lots of lovely little cafes with outdoor seating around the town. After walking the feet off sightseeing, it was wonderful to collapse into a chair on a balmy summer evening and have a long glass of local beer brought to you.

A cosy atmosphere, friendly waiters and reasonable prices. Most important of all: EXCELLENT WINES!!! Almost everything!!!

As I noted, this goes WAY back in time, but there used to be a great little restaurant in Vienna (beloved by poor students) by the name of Gasthaus Schmidt's. The portions were enormous and the prices reasonable. Fun and warm atmosphere. Incredible value. We loved the wienerschnitzel!

This was a restaurant that we called into on the way back home for lunch. A very small quiet place, and be warned, not all restaurants will take the plastic either, this one certainly didn't. This was a small meal - Spagetti done in some kind of nice sauce and oh so filling.

All the restaurants were great. There are many very small restaurants or guest houses. Some of those are the very best. Most of the restaurants are very atmospheric, nothing like America. A lot of the restaurants are actually old castles. Most of the restaurants serve authentic Austrian cuisine. It's like having home cooking at every restaurant. My favorite item on the menu was schnitzel mit knodel. It is excellent, but you can feel your arteries hardening after you've finished it.

by Cyklon

Austrian kitchen is very closed to Hungarian, their vines are also delicious, so I totally feel home there what concerns food:-)))All restaurants and hotels are VERY cosy and immaculately clean. They are masters of creating a familial atmosphere: in those little mountain hotels, that are usually managed by a family, you get the feeling you are part of their family:-))) I love everything there, what is maybe especially remarkable, they are really specialists of preparing wild. As dessert you totally have to try 'Tiramisu' mmmmmmm, delicious:-))))))
