Wilder Kaiser in the background by Helga67 During summertime, Austria is famous for hiking. There are many cable cars leading from the various valleys into the mountains. Of course, you can also go up on foot. On your way up or down, there are always some huts for some relaxing, enjoying the scenery and having something to drink or eat.
Good hiking shoes and a walking stick. Leave a Comment Theme: Hiking

me, trying not to fall by Helga67 Austria is one of the most famous countries in Europe for skiing. The best area is, without doubt, Tyrol. It offers good skiing, snowboarding and langlaufen. You can get ski passports that cover a whole area, which makes it easy to ski from one mountain to another and use different cable cars or ski lifts.
You can bring your own equiment but every village also has equipment that you can hire. Leave a Comment Theme: Skiing/Snowboarding

Bungy jumping from Europabrücke (Europe Bridge) which is 192 meters high, is only for those who are courage enough to jump! Europabrücke is located just several kilometers south of Innsbruck. You park your vehicle after the bridge at the rest station if you travel from Innsbruck to northern Italy. Leave a Comment Theme: Extreme SportsAddress: Europabrücke, Austria

From near the top of the falls by vanderlustLeave a Comment Theme: HikingDirections: There is a gift shop / snack bar / resturant a little past half way up the falls. You can see it here from near the top. I believe the climb from bottom is ~1350meters.

Krimml by vanderlust A hike that the family can make together. The path was well maintained. It does get steep and can be tiring for someone not in shape. Leave a Comment Theme: Hiking

The resturant at the top. by vanderlust The views on the way up were spectacular, but the scenery between the mountains at the top was awe inspiring. Leave a Comment Theme: HikingDirections: Once you reach the top you can hike another 2km to a resturant for lunch if you like. This walk is on much more level ground.

Krimml by vanderlust Be prepared for the hike back down. I had prepared myself for the uphill hike but the downhill had me feeling like the back of my legs were turning to stone. Leave a Comment Theme: Hiking

A much younger pchamlis and wife skiing in Austria by pchamlis, 1 more photos It goes without saying that some of the finest skiing in the world can be found in the Austrian alps. The country has hosted two winter Olympiads (1964 and 1976), and has a legitimate claim to being THE headquarters for downhill skiing. Even thirty years after his gold medal run in Innsbruck, Franz Klammer remains a national hero. ONE NOTE FOR NORTH AMERICAN SKIERS... Most of the lifts in these Austria villages are the t-lift style, where you use the t to pull you up the mountain ON your skis. Chair lifts are the exception, not the rule. And, if you're unfamiliar with using t-lifts, be sure to line up on the right side. The person on the left has to handle getting rid of the t at the end, and it's an acquired skill. :) (Not impossible to acquire, though, as this Florida boy figured it out pretty quickly)
You can fine excellent skiing equipment for sale all over Austria. I wouldn't describe the prices as a bargain, but if you need expert advice on fit, style of skis and such, then Austria is a darned good place to find it. Leave a Comment Theme: Skiing/Snowboarding
