INNSBRUCK - The Golden Roof

by keeweechic

The Golden Roof in the old town is the most well-known landmark in Innsbruck, it was a balcony for the imperial court. Goldene Dachl (Golden Roof) is composed of 2,600 gilded tiles. Emperor Maximilian loved Innsbruck and from here he managed his political activities in Europe. The Goldene Dachl now serves as memorial for this great man and his political, economic and cultural influence on Europe..

VIENNA - Schonbrunn Palace

by keeweechic

The biggest attraction in the west of the city is the imperial summer palace of Schonbrunn, originally a royal hunting lodge until it was commissioned for a palace on the model of residences like Versailles. It was renovated to include about 2000 rooms, a chapel, and a theatre. Take the 40 room tour, its definitely worth it and better than the shorter tour. The grand formal gardens are just superb and well worth taking the time to wander around them. Within the grounds is also the Vienna Zoo and a glasshouse full of tropical ferns.
