Perfect Roads

by Martin_S.

We found the most fantastic set of roads in Austria. They are built well and designed with the driver in mind. From the several European countries we have traveled in, only Germany can compare for good roads. We had a Citroen C5 car and while traveling down the road, I all of a sudden noticed that we were doing 180 kilometers per hour and did not even feel it.

Patience on the road

by Martin_S.

The amazing thing we found in Austria was the patience of the drivers. We stopped for road construction. As you can see in the picture there were a lot of us. Everyone got out of their cars, some had small picnics, some a drink, some lit up a cigarette and others just mingled, sort of like a asphalt nightclub. But most important nobody seemed too much in a hurry, or at least not pressured and this was in the middle of the work week.

Since Bregenz is an 90 mins....

by maitredelang

Since Bregenz is an 90 mins. from Zurich airport and 3 hrs from Munich airport and 4.5 hrs from Stuttgart and 3 hours from Innsbruck, it's best to fly into one of these airports and change to trains for the picturesque ride, no matter which you choose. The train which goes from Munich to Zurich and vice versa goes right through Bregenz, without needing to change trains/umsteigen.walking or driving are the only options for this little town of 29.000. Bikes may suit your needs, at least at the flatter parts near the lakefront, train station, and post office. From there, it's always uphill.

by Kathi_Kg

Plane, but take in account that the airport in Vienna has no excellent connection to the citycentre. Austria is also great to reach by car. People who are not used to driving in mountainous areas can be surprised...Take the highways and avoid the so called ' Landstrassen' if possible.

by Ruediger

Parachuting is a good way of transportation. You can fly through the air as long as you want. But be carefull there are speciell places where you can do it so it is probably not a way of transpotation for long trips :-). I am sure you should rather do it when you want to have a better view to the nature when standing in a valley.

by kywildcat

You may get there by plane, car or train. Depending on what route you're going you might not get around taking the train through some areas. This also means that you have to put your car on it...and go! It's absolutely great! Here you'll see a pic of the railway going the Tauern route. Mallnitz has the highest train station which connects North and South. All Intercity trains stop in Mallnitz. Cars are towed on top of the train from Beockstein to Bad Gastein, which can be reached within 20 Minutes from Mallnitz. After that you may take the car for a spin again. You may also encounter long tunnels when going by car, since you're passing through the Tauerns or other Alpine mountains on your way.In Mallnitz you can take a stroll by foot, bicycle, motorcycle or car. Either way, you'll enjoy what nature has so flawlessly created. Austria is also known for his aggriculture. You will find that...

by blos

that lovely airline Ryanair fly to Klagenfurt, Salzburg, Graz and Friedrichschafen from London Stansted. it's a 2 hour flight which is probably as long as anyone could manage on a no-frills flight, but it is ridiculously cheap so no complaints here. We got the train to Ljubljana and rented a car in Slovenia which was about half the price of Austrian rental. it's a bit awkward but if you're on a budget it just about works. Make sure you get one of those motorway vignettes if you want to use the motorways. it's about 7euro for a 10 day sticker

by lengyelp

From Budapest to Vienna the easiest way is to go by car, or if you don't have it, by train. Trains are cheap and the distance is not too long. Or, if you want a really beautiful trip, get a ship in Budapest and make it to Vienna on the Danube! The very best thing is to go by car. You can see the most that way.

by VincenZzo

Kitzbühel is a small town between the great Salzburg and the big resort city called Innsbruck. Also at couples minutes of the German border... Munich is really close and probably worth a trip. I've been there by car but there's a train station in the town... like any european city.
