For Austria: don't throw trash...
  • Tip Rating:
  • For Austria: don't throw trash from out of your car. You will get a ticket from the police. Very expensive. Don't swim in boxershortlike clothes in the pool. You will be removed immediately!
Don't go to Austria when you are afriad of heights.
Drive carefully in the small tunnels and along the ravines. Also deer can jump in front of your car at night

    Glaciers are Dangerous!
  • Tip Rating:
  • As exciting as it may seem to walk on an ice glacier, it is in fact extremely dangerous. This glacier is in the Stubial Alps, south of Innsbruck and it is where I think a fellow countryman of mine disappeared about a year before I visited the region.
Do not walk alone on the glaciers because you could easily fall into a crevasse and that will be the last that anyone will hear from you. Well you remains might turn up several thousand years from now when after the crevasse finally reaches the end of the glacier and melts. Then you will only be some curiosity for an anthropologist. So you have been warned!

Driving a car in Austria: Crosswalks
  • Tip Rating:
  • When there is a crosswalk without traffic lights and somebody waits to cross the street you have to stop your car (if a safe stopping is possible)!

There is a law in Austria for that.

If you don't do it, you might get a ticket especially in the morning when the childrens go to school.

I think this is a good law! But travelers might not know it because in a lot of other countries this law does not exist.

    Directions
  • Tip Rating:
  • In Vienna you could be confused by looking to the direction, take an example by enlarging the photo and see how the Bus station is marked in both straight and to left, and actually it is only to the left, so if you are not sure, ask any person and he will help you, so you can save your time on searching!

    Hiking in the mountains
  • Tip Rating:
  • Scenic HikeYou need good weather if you want to hike on the Hoellengebirge plateau as bad sight or fog can cause orientation problems. I recommend you start early as temperatures rise a lot in the valleys. The hike is not difficult, however, owing to the relatively low difference in altitude.

In the spring of 1998, stayed...
  • Tip Rating:
  • In the spring of 1998, stayed at the Hotel Maximillian. Decent place, BUT!, I'm an early riser and when I tried to leave the hotel for an early walk (5:30 am) I was locked in. Not my room, the lobby. What if the place caught on fire? The desk clerk arrived at 6 am. By that time there were 3 of us wanting to get out. She unlocked the door for us, saying that they lock it for our safety.
