Monuments

by A-Friend-Of-Belarus

The spirit of communism still lives in Minsk. Though I'm an anti-communist I think it's good that they didn't ruin all the communist monuments, because if they did Mink wouldn't have the charm it has now. For me, it's a lovely and free place without any foreign banks, petrol-stations, billboards and multi-national companies...well, except McDonald's.

Lenin Monuments

by Dirim

Unlike in most of the ex-USSR states, the Lenin Monuments are still eradicated in Belarus in most of the towns. I could not take the photo of the one in Minsk Ploschad Nezavisimosty as it was just in fron of the House of the Government, and the militia guearding there did not allow me to do that.

Pick Berries in the Forest

by rboittier

In Belarus, almost every horizon has a forest, two-thirds of the country is covered by trees. Belarus has been described as the "Lungs of Europe" because of this fact. Therefore, you will never be far from a forest.Ask a local where you can go to pick berries and most of all, which ones are SAFE! As soon as you enter a typical forest you will see an abundance of fruit. We picked blackberries, raspberries, redcurrants and alpine strawberries during our stroll through the woods. There are may other types, including cherries and sweet red gooseberries. Nature's pantry will feed you well in Belarus!

The heart of the country is...

by minchanka

The heart of the country is its capital. But if you look for the soul, you should visit one of numerous small Belarusian villages. Perhaps, wooden painted cottages, bumpy roads, people driving a horse cart, gees stepping in a chain one by one to a pond nearby, or a shepherd turning its herd of cows back home after a long day grazing won't be a picture which you've desired to see. It depends on the taste surely. If you travel to the country not only for catching on the most famous activities, if you aim to visit more than just main points of interests, you won't regret about a day spent in a village.

In inviting you to visit this...

by lorigirl

In inviting you to visit this seemingly unremarkable corner of Belarus with its quiet river Ptich'(which once was one of the waterways called 'from the Vikings to the Greeks') and its inviting name, like a tune of a faraway fife, 'Du-du-t-ki'...,we would like to give you pleasure of acquaintance with the history and culture of this land, its traditions, nature, customs and manners.Let the smell of fresh shavings in an ancient joiner'sworkshop, the reflection of the raw clay reviving in the potter's hands, the rippling of water near the moss-covered oaks, the squeak of the mill and the sound of an anvil, the taste of cottage cheese and exciting fragrance of bread, baked right before your eyes return you for a moment to the almost forgotten childhood sensations and remind that the joy of life is that we do not live in vain, and nothing ends when we leave this world...
