This is another example of our official trappist beers!! It's also one of my preferred beers. Not too strong (7%), it is particularly tasty but quite bitter.Now, how would you order this beer in French : 'Un Orval' ou 'Une Orval'... well people are quite confused and using both but I think it should be 'Un Orval' because the name comes from "Val d'Or" (valley of gold?) that has been inversed (and we say 'un Val').

This chapter is not easy to write, as it is the almost only really negative experience that I have about Belgium - Belgian bureaucracy at immigration.In principal, European Union has 4 major principles, one of which is freedom to move. To apply this freedom, Schengen Agreement was created, and where Belgium is member of. In practice, each Belgian commune has its own weary ways of applying the law. No problem, same law is applied in each commune, but with differing efficiency. When I moved to Belgium 21st December 2001, I registered myself at the Schaerbeek communal house. I got a provisional immigrant identity card for duration of 6 months, which would be changed after the time had passed, and I had permanent job contract. All this is as it should be. Even if it's usually called french fries, it's more a Belgian dish. These fries are served everywhere with a variety of 20 different sauces, and the locals are famous for eating them with large quantities of mayonnaise! Mussels usually come with the fries and this is probably the national dish.

The low fermentation beers, like the pilsen type, amongst them is the Hoegaarden2. The high fermentation beers, where the famous trappistes are included.
