This is another example of our official trappist beers!! It's also one of my preferred beers. Not too strong (7%), it is particularly tasty but quite bitter. Now, how would you order this beer in French : 'Un Orval' ou 'Une Orval'... well people are quite confused and using both but I think it should be 'Un Orval' because the name comes from "Val d'Or" (valley of gold?) that has been inversed (and we say 'un Val').

No Belgium was not the first country wheregay couples had the opportunity to get married. For years it had been one of the demandsof the gay-pride and now they can.It is so that only people with the Belgiannationality can get married in Belgium....so if you were already packing. I'm sorry. In the picture you can see Willy and Dirkwho got married in Antwerpen. (the cityhall behind them). Willy - Benidormone is aVT-member as well.

This one, Kwak is one of the famous beers in Belgium, maybe because of its special way it is serves with the glass and wooden handle. But I must admit, I am not sure if it is so popular because of its quality or the way it serves

When men meet woman in flanders wekiss 3 times. The first on the left cheek.Man shake hands. Woman often kisseach other 3 times. In wallonie it is not unusualthat men kiss to greet each other. If you don't like the kissing...like I do -just say so. In Flanders we like the honest thing.

This chapter is not easy to write, as it is the almost only really negative experience that I have about Belgium - Belgian bureaucracy at immigration. In principal, European Union has 4 major principles, one of which is freedom to move. To apply this freedom, Schengen Agreement was created, and where Belgium is member of. In practice, each Belgian commune has its own weary ways of applying the law. No problem, same law is applied in each commune, but with differing efficiency. When I moved to Belgium 21st December 2001, I registered myself at the Schaerbeek communal house. I got a provisional immigrant identity card for duration of 6 months, which would be changed after the time had passed, and I had permanent job contract. All this is as it should be. In reality, I got a contract through an interim agency for 6 months duration -> I had to go once a month to the communal house to prove...
Even if it's usually called french fries, it's more a Belgian dish. These fries are served everywhere with a variety of 20 different sauces, and the locals are famous for eating them with large quantities of mayonnaise! Mussels usually come with the fries and this is probably the national dish.

For many decades Belgium had a strong comic book culture. The most famous cartoonist is, of course, Hergé who drawn many books about Tintin. These cartoons are still present in people's lives and even can be found in walls in some places...

Beer is the national drink in Belgium. The different brands of beer are way too numerous for the size of the kingdom...There are 3 kinds of beer:1. The low fermentation beers, like the pilsen type, amongst them is the Hoegaarden2. The high fermentation beers, where the famous trappistes are included. Some examples are d'Orval, Chimay, Rochefort and Westmalle3. The spontaneous fermentation beers, which are the typical belgian beers like the gueuzes, krieks and lambics. Cheers!!
