Nearby the village center, the Solvay Château stands gloriously out on a hill in the heart of a magnificent 220 ha park of vast lawns, great spruces, azaleas and rhododendrons, a genuine botanical garden which is open all year round. The Château itself, used for receptions and exhibitions, is named for the last private owners the Solvay family of industrialists who presented the estate to the Government.
Several films have been made in this lovely decor.

The building of the rural Saint Nicholas church has been ordered by Henry Duke of Brabant in the XII th century. Ist has a square roman tower dating from the early XIII th century.
Personally I love attending the classic concerts in this church, which has an extraordinary acoustics.

Walk up to the château. It's a beautiful 19th century castle built that resembles a little bit the châteaux de la Loire.
The parc surrounding the castle is very well kept with huge lawns and flowerbeds.
From the castle you have a splendid vieuw on the rolling hills of the Brabant Wallon.

This tavern is also located on the grounds of the Château de la Hulpe. It's the old farmhouse that has been remodeled (authentic style) and is now a café-restaurant. It has a lovely summer terrace with a nice view of the surrounding orchard.
Favorite Dish: No favourite dish - just had morning coffee there.

Many different large and small shady pathways lead you into the Zoniën Forest.
A good starting point is the "Bosmuseum" or Forest Museum along the Groenendael Cross and Duboislaan 6 in Hoeilaart, which has its own Arboretum.
There are many different walks, all marked in different colours.
Some lead you along the ponds, some along the ancient racecourse, even from Hoeilaart to La Hulpe, St. Genesius Rode, Watermaal-Bosvoorde, etc.
