If you can, get possession of a bicycle and try out the fabulous cycle tracks along the canal. The one we used was concrete and therefore very smooth and comfortable. Of course here in Belgium, hills are rare, so the effort is not too hard to cycle.
We went 10km to a nearby town and stopped there for a coffee before eventually returning to Ath. I really enjoyed this activity.

ATH - a seldom heard about but interesting place.
The cobbles and old buildings all add to the atmosphere of the town of Ath. Situated between Brussels and the border with France, it is conveniently positioned.
