Things to Do

The Belfry

The Belfry, Thuin

Mahieu Says:  The Belfry of Thuin is on the Unesco heritage-list. It is situated in the Ville Haute. You can easily see it from almost everywhere in Thuin. Downstairs, there is a small exhibition of the different Belgian belfries. On the 1st floor you can find information about Thuin and...

Navigation museum

Navigation museum, Thuin

Mahieu Says:  L'Ecomusée de la Batellerie is a museum dedicated to navigation. The city of Thuin and navigation have allways been very close to one another. The museum is situated in a boat, on the Sambre river. It holds a large exhibitons of tools that were/are used for the navigation...

Walking from Ville Basse to Ville Haute

Walking from Ville Basse to Ville Haute, Thuin

Mahieu Says:  On the picture you can see that the climb from Ville Basse to Ville Haute isn't very steep. It's nicer to walk than to drive, because walking, you can stop every now and then to take in the beautiful overview of the lower part of town. It takes about 10 min to get to the...

Just stroll around

Just stroll around, Thuin

Mahieu Says:  Thuin doesn't really have one or more must-see's. The beauty of the village lies in its quiet, cobbled streets. There are 2 parts: Ville Basse (Lower Town) and Ville Haute (Higher Town) You don't need to be in good shape to walk from one another, even I can do it easily...

Family tour not so family as you would think

Family tour not so family as you would think, Thuin

Groentje Says:  You would think that if you were to take the "family tour" of a mountain bike trail (what we in a very macho way call the "Seutenroute") you would be safe for a morning or afternoon of pleasureable cycling, maybe a bit uphill, but still.Well, you couldn't be more wrong!...

The castle of Leers-et-Fosteau

The castle of Leers-et-Fosteau, Thuin

Mahieu Says:  Leers-et-Fosteau is the village I used to live in. Allthough it only has 300 inhabitants, it does have a castle! :-)The Castle dates back from the 14th century. It has a beautiful gothic room and what's great about it, is that it houses continuous exhibitions of antique...

Aulne's Abbey

Aulne's Abbey, Thuin

Mahieu Says:  5 km from Thuin, in the middle of the beautiful Sambre valley, you can find the Abbey of Aulne. It has been founded during the 7th century. You can still admire the impressive vestiges of the abbey. Allthough it's not as impressive as the abbey of Villers-La-Ville, it is...

Les Lacs de l'Eau d' Heure

Les Lacs de l'Eau d' Heure, Thuin

Mahieu Says:  The lakes of L' Eau d' Heure are THE place to be for water freaks: windsurfing, sailing, jet ski, scuba-diving, motor-boating, but also walking, mountain-biking, karting, ... is possible. All this in an unspoilt natural setting. It can be pretty crowded during the summer...

A to-be-built resort near Thuin (Froidchapelle), Thuin

Groentje Says:  Not really Thuin, but Froidchapelle. We spent a weekend here in April 2004 with our football team in a resort from the Landal group, a Dutch resort enterprise. The resort is definitely not finished, but the location is really nice; not as much fun as the Ardennes when it...

Thuin: very cosy city!

I used to live in the beautiful city of Thuin for about 3 years. Thuin is not very touristic, allthough some tourists on their way to the Ardennes visit it during summer. It's really a nice, quiet......
