A couple low key Belgium watering holes -- it takes a three-ring binder to list all the different Belgian beers available!! I can't recall whether it was 1000 or 2000 with maybe 50 on tap, but these differences are irrelevant for the time frames of most travelers. Leave a Comment Directions: Locations?? It suprpised me how old the palace actually was. In fact, I could hardly believe that it was built sometime around year 1000!
Not that you see much of the original building of Bishop Notget now, as almost everything was rebuilt some 500 years later by the architects working for Prince-Bishop Everard de la Marck.
Pay attention to the courtyard with its richly decorated columns (some 60 of them) and galleries. Leave a Comment

Mindbendingly exquisite chocolates. Local rumor states that one can go to a nearby factory and get 'dent & ding' chocolate by the kilo for a fraction of the retail cost. This is definitely worth investigating!!! None of the guides seem to agree on the exact number of steps it takes to reach the top of the Montagne de Bueren, and I was too breathless to keep count! However, there are certainly over 400, so it's unsurprising that the view from the top is amazing. If you can bear a few more steps, there is a viewpoint from the war memorial at the top.
The steps up the mountain were built for an army barracks at its summit. Accounts of exactly why vary, from allowing marching and preventing ambushes in the narrow streets, to providing a route away from the temptations of the red light district. However, perhaps the biggest puzzle is how people manage to get their shopping to the homes halfway up! Leave a Comment

We were tempted in by a Tour de France-related exhibition on the science of the bicycle, and were glad we visited this small museum. Many of the exhibits are aimed at children, but we adults found plenty to look at too. The staff were friendly and helpful, only too happy to carry out one of the demonstrations for us (a *truly* hair-raising demonstration of static electricity).
