First of all, it was my grand-pa who was in charge of the organ, so I used to climb up with him on the balcony and watched him play during the mass. I was so proud to be allowed up there... and so proud of...

  • Bal des Gazettes

First of all, let me explain the word Gazettes... It is actually a play on words about Journal (meaning newspaper), the little village 2km away from Champlon where my cousins live. They used to hang out with other teenagers of the village, and one day, they decided to officialize their gatherings and became "Les Gazettes" (another word for...

But they actually didn't show up, and someone else had to lit the fire... as a result the fire wouldn't start...

  • Le Grand Feu

Each year at this period, every village of the Ardennes organize its "Big Fire" to chase winter away. This old tradition used to be a symbol of purification by fire and coincided with the begin of Lent and its period of fast.Along the years, other significations have been added, as the end of the winter time for example.

  • Las Vegas in Croquette

Yes, we do have our Las Vegas in Champlon :-) Well actually, during Christmas time, a family living in the Rue Croquette tend to over-decorate the street... and since they own three or four houses in that small dead-end street, it really made us think of Las Vegas with all the lights :-)

  • A wedding in Journal

On September 4th, my cousin and her boyfriend got married in the little church of Journal. It was the first time I had been to a wedding where we had to sit around a huge wooden table ! Well I must say it was quite convivial and reflects the spirit of the village...close to nature. The priest also choose to put the font on a sort of stump. The...

  • Caroline Ingalls is back to life !

Well, two weeks ago, if you walked the streets of Champlon and Marche en Famenne, you might have come across Caroline Ingalls :-) Quite unusual for this quiet little part of Belgium...You'll have understood it, my cousin had a stag party, before she got married. In Belgium we say "brûlage de culotte", because after the games, drinks and fun, the...
