Artists on the Semois river

Artists on the Semois river, Chassepierre

Muya Says:  During the day, we could see those artists set on little boats floating up the Semois river, with trumpets and music. It was quite impressive !

Experience the festival !

Experience the festival !, Chassepierre

Muya Says:  We were just coming back from a show, can you see we had fun ? :-) If you happen to be in Belgium at that time, and if you like street theatre, please go to Chassepierre, you won’t be deceived ! It takes place each year around the 20th of august. Entrance fee for an adult is...

Street artists

Street artists, Chassepierre

Muya Says:  I've spend a day in Chassepierre with some friends last august during the Street Artist festival, and I really had a great time ! The artist you see on the picture is the one I preferred. He is called Fraser Hooper, and performed his show with a touch of British attitude,...

Stalls on the background

During the festival, the streets of Chassepierre are also full of little shops selling arts and craft but also food and drinks. Of course, you can choose to go to one of the restaurants as well and eat some local specialties. Beer lovers will be satisfied, Orval stalls are all around :-)

The festival is also an opportunity to discover some local products such as the "pate gaumais" (meat pie), home-made jelly, homemade sweets and ice-creams but also paintings from local artists and hand-crafted objects. And as it's not far from the famous abbey, you'll find Orval beer everywhere ;-)

What to pay: Entrance fee for the festival : 12 euros for one day or 18 for 2.

Forgotten your cap ?

Even in Belgium we can have some days of heat in the summer... yes, it happens sometimes ;-) Well, then bring a hat or a cap because it can be really hard sitting in the sun to watch the artists, as it is an open-air festival, there's not much shadow. And bring some water too.

The biggest and most original musical instrument

The biggest and most original musical instrument, Chassepierre

Bigjones Says:  Martin Groeneveld had the great idea to build a huge xylophone able to go on the water so that he could play us an air on the Semois.

The favorite street actors : Circo Imperfecto

The favorite street actors : Circo Imperfecto, Chassepierre

Bigjones Says:  A breathtaking show. Two street actors and a woman who is always trying to be included in the team without any success .... The two guys continue their acrobatics, unicycling, juggling and funambulism ... But finally, they are conquered but the girl who keeps following them...

The most original : Popol

The most original : Popol, Chassepierre

Bigjones Says:  You can make art with almost nothing : let your hair grow, dress as an angel, create a wheeled platform to circulate, put on some music from the heaven and say "un ange passe". Litterally "an angel is passing by", which means in French that there was an ackward silence....

My favorite dance show : Producciones Imperdibles

My favorite dance show : Producciones Imperdibles, Chassepierre

Bigjones Says:  Contrary to usual shows, the spectators sit down in chairs under the transparent stage to admire the dancers above them. It was already great to see from the side but the feeling you get when you are under is very different and impressive. When they fall on the floor, it's...
