'Felicien Rops' is a lesser known Belgian artist. When I first saw a work from him at the museum of fine arts in Antwerp , somewhere hidden in a corridor between 2 rooms with masterpieces I wanted to find out more about him. He was born in Namur and you can visit a nice museum with his work not far from the place he was born. He combines techniques and all of his works have got the same themes. Woman , death , erotica Often combined in one frame. ;-) The nice thing is that some of the techniques he used are explained in the museum. He died on 23 August 1898... If you take your time , count about one hour to visit the museum. If your prudish and taking offense of something fast...this is not a museum suitable for you. Leave a Comment

When I entered the church I had an Italian feeling crawling up me. The mystery soon became solved since the cathedral at Namur is the only one in Belgium after an Baroque Italian sanctuary. The church was designed by architect Pizzoni who also designed the cathedral of Soleure in Swiss. The plans didn't get build completely as they were mend to be since there wasn't enough money. When you enter at the organ loft have a look at the floor. It is covered with Belgian marble from Saint-Remy - Rochefort. Leave a Comment Address: Place Saint-Aubain.

Already in 10BC the first roman setlers were interested in Namur because it's ideal location near the rivers 'Meuse and Sambre.' In the 10th and 11th century major construction works took place. The citadel was build. A huge building that still dominates the city. Through the centuries it was a wanted building because of it's strategic location. Leave a Comment

The old church was already in bad shape when an overflow took place. The clergymen dicided to tear the church down except for the tower at the south point from the 11th century. This tower also contains the bells. In 1648 the upper parth of the tower got rebuild into a barocque bell tower. Leave a Comment Address: Place Saint-Aubain.

The major tourist attraction of Namur is its Citadel. The Citadel served as a strategic bastion, attracting many attacks and numerous reconstructions during its history. Because of its strategic location it has been the center point of many battles over its long history. The Citadel is situated right next to the river La Meuse. You can enjoy a walk on the banks of the river together with beautiful views of the Citadel. Leave a Comment

1 of the things that immediately caught my attention as soon as I got to this square is this interesting group of statues. I just had to take a picture next to it! The statues are called Djoseph and Francwes and they were made by Suzanne Godard in 2000. Leave a Comment

There are different ways to enjoy your visit to the citadel. You can visit it by the tourist train or by the coach that you can find in front of the tourist office. I opted for the last one. I tried to conquer Citadel on foot but the steep uphill road was no good for my aging joints. Citadel can be visited free of charge, thanks to the Five Interpretation Tours that was completed in June 2001 that made it accessible to everyone. The first three hours on foot to the citadel are free of charge. There are some color coded maps that can help you during your visit. Just be sure that you are fit enough to walk a lot! Comfortable walking shoes are definitely a MUST. OPENING HOURS: The tourist train : 1st visit at 10:30 a.m., last departures at 3:30 p.m. March 1 to 16 : Only weekend March 22 to September 30, 2008 : Every day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Address: Route Merveilleuse 64, 5000 NAMURPhone: 081/ 65.45.00Directions: Not difficult to find. This must be the highlight of our visit to Namur. Upon entering the said market, we were given a beautiful green shopping bag with some apples inside. We were also given a ticket for free soup to be consumed inside the open market. A lot of locals and tourists alike helped themselves with the regional products of vegetables, fruits, meat, honey, etc. I could not resist the ball of cheese called Le Rigodon. My son however bought a glass of freshly made fruit juice with no sugar nor additives. Some juices have added wine in them. At the end of the day, we came home with two bags of bio apples and vegies. Directions: In front of the Municipal Hall
