Miscellaneous tips, walks, general info, Antwerp
Antwerp start page
One thing that struck me as I walked around Antwerp was the close proximity of extremely different social groups.
Antwerp has lots of immigrants and people from every corner of the world. There are lots of ethnic groups, restaurants and neighborhoods.
But one of those juxtapositions that caught my eye was the religious and sexual. Yes, there is a legal and fruitful red light district. And yes, there are many churches with their regular devout followers. But having them literally next door to each other does not always occur.
Favorite thing: The old cobble stone streets that wind around the compact historic center have copious amounts of above-ground tram tracks. These tracks are just about everywhere and sometimes even go through plazas, splitting the tables of the outdoor cafes.
Favorite thing: Once you get tired walking down the street, and you simply want to sit down, feel free to do that anywhere you want. OK, so I guess road if off the list, but other than that, you'll be fine :) You can also grab a quick bite :)
Favorite thing: Walking in the streets of Antwerp you will be surprised by great views over and over again. Here we see the cathedral behind a v-shaped building. At the left you see the tower of the cathedral, while at the right of the building there is a piece of the ship of the cathedral.
Favorite thing: The good thing about Antwerp is, that if sober, you will not get lost. There are many stands with the city map in the streets.
