Bar Italia: Viva Italia!
There is something special with 'Bar Italia' -
from all the times I tried to get in all seats were
reserved. Now I'm quit impulsive if it comes to
go out for dinner and Antwerp has about 500
restaurants so. But this time , it was early in
the afternoon (17h , just open)and I did get in.
I always thought that is was it's location that made
'Bar Italia' so popular. It is located in front of
the beautiful museum of fine arts. The interior
is cool with a lof of warm touches...(a design
by Jo Peeters - a name in restaurant design)
Maybe the red lights on the ceiling remind about
the previous function of the building. A red light bar.
It's the food in combination with the perfect
service that makes this restaurant so popular.
'Strozzapreti' are fresh pasta with gorgonzola
sauce. Not my thing but Free loved it and
the 'Torteloni fresh' were simply divine.
The 'insalata mista' - side salade was among
the best I ever tasted and I choose fennel in
the oven as a side dish. They got a wood
oven here... and the pizzas of the neighbours
looked very good as well.
I can't resist tiramisu and I didn't regret it for
a second. It was a Belgian portion. Go try
if for yourself is my recommendation.
You might consider making a reservation ,
but there are a lot of restaurants in that
The price is ok if you really get fresh pasta
I don't mind paying for it....
Bar Italia: A touch of Italy?
We took a reservation for 5 people and ended at a very small table, hardly big enough for 4 people sitting comfortable to eat.
The restaurant looks very "modern" but a bit too impersonal modern to me.
When another table became available we asked if we could move.
We ordered some pizza's and pasta's and Chibuzor ordered a spagetti.
NEVER order a spaghetti in an Italian restaurant!
You pay too much for nothing, for noodles with a tastles red sauce.
Chibu was indeed disappointed with his choice.
My pizza (with ham and cheese) would have been delightful maybe maybe, if they hadn't added so much of the special salad on it.
I love this salad but in lesser proportions as its taste is so strong and profound it disguised the taste of the parma cheese and also the taste of the ham that was not really on it in "huge" amounts uh uh..
Favorite Dish: Generally spoken, I don't plan to come here again.
It is more loke a fastfood restaurant, the astmosphere is not cosy, it is for a quick bite at a bit of an expensive price for what you get.
Not something I would advice you to go to.
