De Groote Witte Arend: snack combined with beer
De Groote Witte Arend is a very nice location not far from the Market Square.
You can go there for a drink or you can go there for a small meal, which is prepared with the beer you accompany your meal with. The suggestions are on their menu.
The place has a nice inner court that let’s you enjoy to sit outside on wooden benches while listening to classical music.
Inside it is pretty nice as well but….
The rooms are very smoky (I got really ill the next day due to the lack of oxygen in there) and the service was not really terrific.
They are not really that friendly and it was not only on my last visit I noticed, but I have experienced it several times.
Often you have to wait for ages before you get served, on other moments you are lucky.
The choices of beers are not outrageous.
I would recommend the place during Summer time, but do keep in mind they close at midnight! Even if the terrace is still filled with customers. They just politely kick you out.
Favorite Dish: I once had a small lunch, it was ok but nothing too special.
Menu's based and accompanied with the same beer are available.
De Groote Witte Arend: The Great White Eagle
De Groote Witte Arend means The Great White Eagle. This is a very old local restaurant located in the center of Antwerp. It's very nice to be here in the morning to have breakfast or at night to have a sip of coffee or beer. The ground with simple benches is full of gentle symphony
Favorite Dish: Different from the Pelgrom, the best choice beer here is a little stronger one Duvel (means Devil), or fruit beer for women (Kriek).
De Groote Witte Arend: De Groote Witte Arend
A 15th century patrician's house, beautifully restored and from 1976 onwards used as a cafe-restaurant. Typical old Flemish are the hard wooden benches and chairs, both inside and on the lovely courtyard.
De Grote Witte Arend is one of the more trendier places in the city, and fills up rather quickly.
A very quiet refuge in the city centre, that has always classical music in the background.
Favorite Dish: I've never eaten here, just had drinks.
Groote Witte Arend.: Groote Witte Arend.
Warm and cozy cafe that is even a standout in Antwerp, where you will find hundreds of great places. The imaginative menu is well matched with a fair beer selection.
Favorite Dish: Kipfilet Krieken (filet of chicken cooked with Kriek beer and cherries) served with small whipped potato balls and salad, for about $12. This was washed down magnificently with a Kriek Boon, a lovely sour cherry delight in its own right.
